OK, not dead, but as least eliminated. Yes, finally Eddie is gone. No one denies that he’s a major design talent, but from the beginning the judges have warned him that he had a kind of “granny” style. But this episode, he did a totally senior citizen type room again and the judges rightly gave him the boot.

OK, not dead, but as least eliminated. Yes, finally Eddie is gone. No one denies that he’s a major design talent, but from the beginning the judges have warned him that he had a kind of “granny” style. But this episode, he did a totally senior citizen type room again and the judges rightly gave him the boot.
Eddie’s bitchiness was in fine form this episode. The contestants celebrated Eddie’s birthday with a cake and excessive drinking — pointing out that Preston didn’t want to play in their reindeer games. Couldn’t they see that Preston has a different, more introverted personality? Still they, especially Eddie, seemed to take Preston’s minimal participation as an insult.
What a great challenge — each were given a town home with three bedrooms (two very small) and allowed to design one room. For the finale, the remaining contestants will finish the whole home, so this week’s design choices lock in next week’s as well.
Ondine was the one expected to go. She was eliminated last week but saved when Andrea took herself out of the game. And Ondine seemed to struggle in the shopping phase, which seemed to foreshadow her ejection from the final four. It got worse when she couldn’t get her most important furniture item in the door (the movers finally did get it in —whew!).
But she got it together in the end. She chose to do one of the smaller bedrooms as an office/guest bedroom in a black and white design that judges loved (including guest judge Flipping Out’s Jeff Lewis).
Preston chose to do the family room with bold color and furniture choices, where nothing matched. It not only looked good, but also comfy. You know, he may really win this thing.
Eddie and Nathan both chose the mast bedroom. Nathan’s very traditional four-poster bed fought with every other choice in the room. In fact, the judges liked his few simple touches the bathroom even more. They were right, though, in saying it wasn’t one of Nathan’s best designs.
But Eddie’s light blue and white bedroom looked straight off the set of Golden Girls. Nicely put together, if it were for an octogenarian!
I’m sure Eddie’s still bitching today about he was the most talented designer and how dare they kick him off?!! But the truth is, this is a contest and you have to play to win. If the judges keep telling you they don’t want to see something and you are arrogant enough to keep doing it, you deserve to go home.
My favorite part of the show was when we got to see the remaining four contestants’ home — seeing what their design preferences really are. Got to say, I was most impressed by Preston’s.
Is it me or have these last two week’s designs been lackluster? I think they are getting really tired. Hopefully, they’ll rise to the challenge at next week’s finale.
Who do you think will win? I always saw Nathan as the frontrunner, but now I’m thinking that Preston has a real shot. Ondine is just lucky to be there. And we’re lucky that Eddie will not… (or am I just being bitchy?)
