He uses the tried and true method of searching the phone book and killing all the Martin Bedell's listed there. Hmmm. That sounds familiar. He gets one, but Sarah and John manage to protect the other two. Along the way, John learns just how many people are going to die for him in the future. It's a lot.

A new terminator is in town and this time he's after the guy who trains John in the future: Martin Bedell. He uses the tried and true method of searching the phone book and killing all the Martin Bedell's listed there. Hmmm. That sounds familiar. He gets one, but Sarah and John manage to protect the other two. Along the way, John learns just how many people are going to die for him in the future. It's a lot.
We start with the new Terminator (Patrick Kilpatrick) killing a man while he's barbecuing. This gets the attention of Team Connor. Derek recognizes the name guy's name: Martin Bedell. It turns out that in the future, Martin helps train John and put together the resistance. Fortunately, the terminator got the wrong Martin Bedell.
John uses a clue written on the wall of blood to figure out that their Martin Bedell (Will Rothhaar) is actually at military school. John and Derek gear up and head out to protect him.
At the school, John is accepted as a plebe and Derek is given a job as an advisor. Bedell turns out to be John's Cadet Captain. Bedell confesses to John that he's tired of trying to live up to his father's accomplishments--he just wants to run away with his girlfriend.
John and Derek argue about John's ability to take care of himself. Although, for once, John is actually acting like a believable future leader of humanity. Derek, on the other hand, is acting like a soldier that is suffering from future-traumatic disorder. He keeps having flashes of Bedell in the future.
Back in L.A., Sarah and Cameron save young Marty Bedell (Billy Unger) from termination. Unfortunately, the Terminator gets away, so they have to keep Marty with them. Marty's fine with that, even though he's about 8, because he got a good look at the thing chasing him. His only concern is getting his book report done on time. That's a very devoted student. Cameron suggests choosing “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, which is John's favorite book.
The Terminator, unable to track Marty Bedell down, discovers that the next target on the list, the real Martin Bedell, is at the military school. Sarah calls Derek to warn him. Derek sets a trap for the Terminator, which almost works, but Bedell panics and the Terminator spots him. John, seeing that Bedell is about to die, steps in to distract the Terminator. If you're John Connor that's pretty easy to do. As soon as John identifies himself, the Terminator has a new mission. John leads the Terminator to Derek who blows the Terminator's head in half, while John sets him on fire. As they watch the burning terminator sink into the water, they're joined by Bedell...and Cameron, who was apparently watching from the woods. Interesting.
John explains about the sucky future they're all going to experience, which makes Bedell fully commit to the military. Bedell's still a little unsure if there's any point, though. John assures him that there is a point. To reinforce that, Derek tells John what happens to Bedell in the future. Bedell sacrifices himself to destroy a tank—saving Kyle and John in the process. Just one of the many who die to save John. John does not look cheered by this news.
On the Ellison front, he's investigating the power plant explosion. He chats up the federal investigator, Nelson (Dean Norris), and realizes that two terminators were in the plant and that they were fighting. He also discovers that Sarah was involved. He reports back to Weaver about the two machines, but leaves Sarah out of it. He does tell Weaver that Nelson's report will probably delay the installation of her computer network. The next thing you know, Nelson is being picked up in a bar by a beautiful, young woman. I'm sure you won't be surprised to discover that the woman is Weaver in disguise and that she kills him by impaling him with her tongue. Ew.
I liked this episode. I liked seeing John acting as a potential leader, and I thought the Wizard of Oz voice over during the fight scene was a nice touch. Weaver is freaking me out though.

I liked this episode (especially the the little skirmish in the woods with the "Wizard of Oz' voice-over) but the product placement was a bit over-the-top.
