Once again, I was not disappointed in a phenomenal Season 4 premier of Supernatural. As no surprise to anybody, Dean is back. He wakes up in a coffin and has to claw his way out. He gets to a gas station near by and grabs the essentials, food, water, money, porn. We are talking about Dean here after all! As he is taking the cash, the tv and radio go wacky and the windows break. My first thought was that Dean was a demon. Anybody with me on that one? It stops and Dean leaves. He tries to call Sam, but his phone is disconnected. He calls Bobby, but gets hung up on and threatened. Obviously, Bobby is not amused by it.

Since Bobby won't talk to him, Dean goes to Bobby. And he got an equally bad response in person. Of course, Bobby thought he was a shape-shifter or a demon. Dean cuts himself and bobby throws Holy water on him to prove that he is the real deal. Dean tells Bobby he can’t remember what happened while he was in Hell. They are both equally puzzled on how he got out. Bobby wanted to salt and burn Dean body, but Sam said he was going to find away to get Dean back. Bobby hasn’t seen Sam in months, so Dean calls the phone company to track down where he is.

They find Sam in a trashy hotel in Illinois with a girl. When Sam sees Dean, he gives him the same welcome Bobby gave him, beating the crap out of him. Bobby tells Sam it is really Dean. After a brief moment of happy to have you back, Dean starts in on Sam about what he did to get him back. Sam says he tried, but no demon could help him. Thank goodness Sam didn’t sell his soul. We have already seen enough of that story line! Sam has been on the trail of Lillith. They leave to visit a psychic Bobby knows to see if she has any answers.

Dean gets to be with his car again. As he goes to admire it, he notices an iPod plugged into the radio. And then a classic Dean line, "You were supposed to take care of her, not douche her up." Man I love him! When they get to the psychic, they have a séance, in which she uses the hand mark on Dean to help her. Unfortunately for her, she gets her eyes burned out during it when she “sees” whatever pulled Dean out of Hell.

They leave and head to a diner nearby. They see a Demon that Sam has been hunting. After Dean falls asleep in a motel, Sam heads out to get the Demon from the diner. When he arrives, many of the demons were all eyeball less, but the waitress Sam was after was still around. Now earlier in the episode, Sam tells Dean that he has not been using his power. Right! He proves that he lied to his brother as he sucks the demon right out of her using his mind. Uh, raise your hand if you like the new and improved bad-ass Sam better than the old Sam. Yeah, I thought so. And who has been his sidekick all of this time? None other than Ruby. Well, Ruby in a different body.

Dean and Bobby are trying to figure out once again who pulled Dean out. So they perform a ritual. And who did it? You won’t believe me. AN ANGEL OF GOD! Yeah, you heard me right. His name is Castile. He has been following Dean; hence the high pitch sounds (his voice). And the whole burned eyeballs are because humans cannot handle the sight of him. Sounds like the movie Dogma, lol. Anyway, apparently they have big plans for Dean. I don’t know about you guys, but I never saw that coming! But I like it. Eric Kripke hasn’t let me down yet, and I don’t think he is going to start now!

I thought that was an amazing episode, a great way to start the season and what a twist! I give it an A+++++++!

  2. Great recap. I was so happy to see the return of blonde hotness to my TV screen. I loved the episode! I saw the angel twist coming about mid-way through, but I loved how they portrayed the angel. I don't know about you, but I'm skeptical. Is he really an angel? And, if so, shouldn't he be prettier than Dean??? ;-)

  3. loved it. Once again Kripke knocked it out of the park when it comes to dialogue, plot and new characters. It's great!

Trivia note: The song playing on the ipod in the car that Dean gives Sam grief over - it's by Jason Manns, one of Jensen's BFFs in real life.
