The episode starts out with a gorgeous opening sequence, complete with a Lucas voiceover describing how when he was a kid, jumping on the bed was like flying, like anything was possible. We see Jamie jumping on his bed and then Lucas and Peyton doing the same in their motel room. Peyton goes to see Brooke, to say goodbye since she’s apparently moving in with Lucas as soon as possible. I bet most of her stuff has been packed for years.

Brooke looks like she’s been beaten with a metal pole and somehow Peyton believes the old “I fell down the stairs” line. Peyton quickly turns the conversation to her engagement to Lucas. Brooke, who has the patience of a saint, does her best to say she’s excited for Peyton and not verbally punch her in the face. Brooke is a mess. She’s got bruises all over her body, her one eye is almost swollen shut and she’s just a broken human being. She calls Deb, who thinks they should call the police but Brooke refuses. The store is trashed and the designs for the all important collection are gone. Now I still say Victoria couldn’t have someone beat up her own daughter but wasn’t Millicent going to be working that night before Brooke fired her? There was that not so subtle threat Victoria gave Millicent about her being sorry for choosing Brooke’s side.
In Dan and Crazy Carrie’s little world, Carrie unveils her super genius supervillian (insert evil laugh here) plan to Dan. Yes, criminal mastermind Carrie has been taking Dan’s SUV to Jamie’s school every day to freak out Haley. Good thing Dan decided to get the most tinted windows on the planet because otherwise the plan might have a flaw. Wait. The second part of Carrie’s plan is to kidnap Jamie and have everyone think Dan did it. Dan regains the ability to speak and chooses to say three little words. No, not those but that would be completely insane, wouldn’t it? Over and over again, Dan says, “Your plan sucks.” What she didn’t know is that Dan is the absolute best at messing with people’s minds and he scores a home run with Carrie. He gets her to call the number on his beeper and explains to her that he’s dying. Carrie freaks out in front of Dan, which is another bad plan. If he knows his manipulation is working, then you’ve already lost.
Haley is still stuck in supportive background mode this week. Let’s be serious. Haley is a houseplant so far this season. She does confront Deb and Nathan, accusing Deb of taking Nathan’s pain pills. In what is the least dramatic scene in all of One Tree Hill, after the most dramatic build up, Nathan explains he took the pills because they’re his pills and he was in pain. Haley convinces Nathan to see a doctor about his back and they find out that if he keeps practicing as hard as he has been, he could end up paralyzed for good this time. Nathan decides to take it easy. Good call, number twenty-three. Meanwhile, in toontown, Jamie wants to make a superhero cape for Q just like the one he has. He does, thanks to houseplant Haley making one with Jamie’s supervision, of course.
And then there’s Q. Q is flying. He gets an A+ on a paper he wrote for Haley’s class, he’s doing amazingly well on the court and he’s an inspiration to everyone he’s around these days. After practice one night, he stops by a little gas station, goes inside and talks to the clerk, who says nothing. Q spots the real clerk dead in the doorway of the backroom. We hear a gunshot but it cuts to Deb teaching Brooke how to shoot a gun. Lucas gets a call confirming Q is dead. Unbelievable. It was truly shocking and I can honestly say I didn’t see it coming when he pulled into the gas station. I know I’m trying to connect as many dots as possible but does anyone else think Brooke’s robbery and Q’s murder are related? Both were vicious attacks and the second I saw the shooter’s face, I thought of Brooke. I’m still shocked. Q, you will be missed.
Next week, Haley and Nathan have to explain to Jamie what happened to Q as the whole town mourns.
