I'd say this episode is exactly why I watch One Tree Hill but that wouldn’t be accurate. I didn't know it could be this good. Last week, we lost Quentin and in this episode, everyone grieves. I don't think you have to have ever watched the show to be moved by the episode. The new girl, Samantha, the narrator of this episode, hits it right on the head. She didn't know Quentin but she sees how loved he was.

I'd say this episode is exactly why I watch One Tree Hill but that wouldn’t be accurate. I didn't know it could be this good. Last week, we lost Quentin and in this episode, everyone grieves. I don't think you have to have ever watched the show to be moved by the episode. The new girl, Samantha, the narrator of this episode, hits it right on the head. She didn't know Quentin but she sees how loved he was.
Nathan and Haley have to explain to Jamie what happened and Jamie becomes more determined to finish Q’s cape. Haley faces her class and Quentin’s empty desk. When she finds new girl Samantha sitting at his desk, Haley redirects her to a seat in the back of the room. A student has written a message to Q on the desk and Haley joins in, leaving a message of her own and encouraging the other students to do the same.
The loose ends start to get tied together. Samantha is the girl who shoplifted from Brooke’s store. Dan and Crazy Carrie are arguably unnecessary in this episode and feel out of place until Dan discovers Carrie lost her son. How, we don’t know but he is buried in the backyard. In a touching moment, Nathan talks to Brooke and it’s possible he sees through her big lie. He tells her that no matter what, they’re all there for her and that they’re proud of the woman she’s become. That conversation is one of my favorite moments ever on this show. Like I said, this episode was incredible.
One of the things that has been driving me batty is that they all do seem to go with "Brooke fell down the stairs." Whether or not they're all that delusional, I don't know but that's how it's coming off. I do hope at some point, someone will say to her, "Look, I know you didn't fall down the stairs." Nathan's speech did seem to come close but on One Tree Hill, it would be more of the shake you up, confrontational conversation. Brooke has finger shaped bruises on her upper arm and no, B. Davis doesn't own any long sleeved shirts. So, unless they're all willing to believe the stairs grew hands and tried to stop her from falling down them, they're all either blind or hiding their suspicions well. You know at least Peyton would be confronting her.
The voiceover at the end was beautifully done. In case you wanted to see it in print, here it is:
"Quentin Fields was a basketball player. He was also a son, a brother, somebody's teammate and somebody's friend. I never knew Quentin Fields. I guess now I never will. Grief is like the ocean. It's deep and dark and bigger than all of us. And pain is like a thief in the night. Quiet, persistent, unfair, diminished by time and faith and love. I didn't know Quentin Fields but I'm jealous of him. Because I see how his absence has affected the people who did know him so I know that he mattered to them. I know he was loved."
At the funeral, after everyone leaves, Jamie stays behind and Brooke stays with him. He opens the box Q gave him and pulls out the cape to put it on his coffin. That scene completely destroyed me.
"People say Quentin Fields was a great basketball player. Graceful, fluid, inspiring. They say on a good night, it almost seemed as though he could fly. And now he can."

I agree. this was such a stand out episode. The scene with Nathan and Brooke just kills me everytime I see it. It is by far the best scene ever on this show!!
