Why I choose this episode is easy to say, it is again one of those episodes that showed a completely different perspective of one of the main characters, and I like that a lot. That was basically my reason to review this episode. I like Sam´s character a lot, and watching this episode gives you a new take on the character. Besides that I also liked the whole place in earth´s future thing.

Why I choose this episode is easy to say, it is again one of those episodes that showed a completely different perspective of one of the main characters, and I like that a lot. That was basically my reason to review this episode. I like Sam´s character a lot, and watching this episode gives you a new take on the character. Besides that I also liked the whole place in earth
    ´s future thing.

This episode takes place in the future, 2010 to be exact. The Aschen, an alien race, have allied with earth for the past ten years and therefore preventing the Goa’uld to take down earth. Throughout these years a lot of things have changed. But there is one thing that causes Sam to worry. She and her husband Joe are unable to have children. Though there is no reason why she can’t conceive and even with the knowledge of the Aschen who are literally hundreds of years ahead of us when it comes to medical knowledge. And the only advice they can give is to keep on trying.

Sam brings her husband to the terminal, he has to go on a business trip to another world. It becomes obvious that the Stargate is now being used as a public form of transportation.

At the terminal, the SG1 team gets honored for their work ten years ago protecting earth from the Goa’uld. Everyone is there, except for Jack. It becomes clear that Jack hasn’t been seen in six years. Teal´c, Daniel, Janet and Sam make plans for diner. While Daniel and Teal´c leave Sam and Janet have a discussion about the fact that Sam is unable to conceive.

Janet tells Sam that she is willing to perform a second opinion on Sam´s infertility. She says that even though her medical knowledge is now considered old fashioned she can still perform the tests. Sam agrees and after some tests Janet tells her that there is no way she can ever have children because her ovaries are severely damaged. Sam is shocked, she wants to find out why the Aschen lied to her. And with the login code of an Aschen scientist she finds the answers she was looking for. Over the last ten years the Aschen have slowly but surely prevented the human population from having children, so far that they are now at a 91 percent drop.

At the restaurant, Janet tells everyone that the day before Hammond died six years ago he called her telling her that he wanted to see her because he had something important to tell her. The next day he was dead, the Aschen told them that he died of a heart attack. Janet doubted that he did, because he was in perfect health. The Aschen told that their machines where infailable and that the heart attack was what the machines found.

Quickly they realize that the Aschen control everything around them even the Stargate. Sam thinks of a way to send themselves an message. Sam goes to find Jack and wants to ask him for help. Jack doesn´t want to help her he is very skeptical, because he predicted that there was something not right and no one believe it.

Jack basically shoots her down tells her that he is not interested, he personally likes his life and doesn´t feel the need to safe the world again. Especially not because when he tried to warn them everyone including Sam told him that he was wrong.

Sam tells him that they are going to do this with or without his help. Sam and Daniel go on a trip to the SGC which is now turned into a museum. Where they work on their plans to use the Stargate to send a note to the SGC in the past.
Sam tells Joe about her discovery only to find out that Joe in a way has known of this plan. The Aschen have informed him that the growth of the human race was to fast and that it could cause problem. He amongst others agreed but not to this degree. Sam needs Joe´s help to get the real iris remote that is kept in the Oval office and she wants him to replace it with a fake one that they took from the SGC museum.

Joe brings Sam the iris remote and finds Jack in her lab as well. He tells them that he will only hand the iris remote if they promise that Sam will not be part of the operation. Jack agrees with it, they only have little time because they need a solar flare for the dial up, since they are trying to go to the past.

Janet leaves to meet Teal´c at Chu´lac, while Daniel is on the look out. Teal´c arrives back at Earth from Chu´lac and he shoots down the first guard and starts dialing the gate while Daniel takes down another guard. Jack needs to reach the gate while Teal´c is shot down by the laser defense network. Teal´c dies while defending Jack, he tries to reach the Stargate and doesn´t make it through either. Daniel leaps forward making it almost up the steps to the Stargate before he dies. Sam runs away from Joe and into the highly defended terminal area, she makes it to the top of the stairs and is able to throw the crumpled piece of paper through the Stargate before she dies.

Meanwhile on Earth in 2000 the Stargate starts to dial in and the code identifies it as SG1, but at that moment the SG1 team is on Earth and not on a mission. General Hammond tells them to open the gate to find out what is going on and as they do the crumpled piece of paper falls to the floor. Jack confirms that it is his handwriting and Janet points out that there are bloodstains on the paper. General Hammond immediately commands them to take the home world of the Aschen off of the list of worlds they are going to explore.
