I choose this particular episode because it was one of my favorites from Season 3. ‘Point of View’ is due to the plot one of those episodes which pushes the actors to the limit I think. Especially Amanda Tapping (Major/Dr. Sam Carter) who plays a double role in this episode.

In a storage room in ‘Area 51’ a mirror found by Dr. Daniel Jackson a year and a half ago transports two people from an alternative reality to this reality. Behind them in the mirror you can see that they are attacked by Goa’uld and that they are obviously trying to escape. Within seconds team of soldiers surrounds them, the woman and the man look up and introduces herself as Dr. Samantha Carter of the SGA she then asks them to bring her to their commander.

They bring her to the Stargate Command where she first meets Colonel Jack O’Neill. She is just as surprised as him to see him alive, as he is to see his major with long hair looking more feminine then we have ever seen Sam before. The Jack O’Neill in her reality was her husband, he died while he tried to defend Earth from the invasion of the Goa’uld. He is even more surprised when his friend and fellow soldier Kawalsky walks up to him to tell him, that Sam is so surprised because Jack is dead in their reality just like he is Jack’s reality.

The other team members, Sam, Daniel and Teal’c are introduced to Dr. Samantha Carter via a video recording in which she is interrogated. Dr. Samantha Carter explains on the video that there are multiple alternative universes which exist because our life is based on our choices and every time we make a choice a different choice is being made in an alternate universe. Fork in the road choices and Sam agrees. Which earns her a comment from Jack that she just agreed with herself. Jack replies back with asking if there actually is a ‘Jack’ out there who understands what the hell they are talking about.

General Hammond asks the team to stay while Dr. Samantha Carter and Major Kawalsky are debriefed. They are asked to join the meeting, Kawalsky walks in but stops death in his tracks when he lays eyes on Teal’c. He then attempts to attack him but is stopped by the guards.

Daniel explains that Teal’c is a member of SG1, it soon becomes clear that Teal’c in their reality is the leader of the Goa’uld who attacked Earth. Sam seemed shocked to see herself, with long hair and apparently no desire at all to join the military.

The visitors from the alternative universe hope that they can stay in this reality because there is nothing for them to go back to. General Hammond requests by the US Government if they can stay and the request is granted, given that he finds a way to incorporate them into the SGC. At the same time he is afraid because some lines are not meant to be crossed. And he is right, soon the fact that there are two Sam Carters in one reality starts to threaten the life of Major Sam Carter.

Jack offers that he will tell Samantha Carter and Kawalsky that they can stay, when he arrives at Samantha Carters room he finds her crying. He notices the picture on her night stand, a wedding picture of her and Jack O’Neill. Samantha tells him that they are married in her reality and that she watched her husband die three days ago while he was fighting to save their planet from the Goa’uld invasion. She tells him what happened on their planet. He feels sorry knowing that his presence must make it more difficult for her to deal with the loss of her husband.

The alternate Sam goes into convulsive shock, caused by temporal entropic cascade failure on the cellular level -- they decide that the visitors must go back if she is to live. They know that they don´t have much time or Sam will suffer the same problems due to the fact that there are two of her in the same reality. The SG team comes up with an idea of how to save Sam but they have to go to Samantha Carters reality and save what is left. They need to move fast because the convulsions are getting worse. Kawalsky explains to Daniel how the mirror device works so that he can find their way back while both Sam’s work together to reactivate the depleted Ancient power modulator that O'Neill built several months ago, when he had the Ancients' library of knowledge downloaded into his brain ("The Fifth Race").

The team minus Sam Carter find themselves in the storage room while the Goa’uld pass them. Teal’c joined the team wearing his Jaffa uniform, he kills the alternate Teal’c and acts as if he found Samantha Carter who tried to escape. It keeps the Goa’uld occupied while Daniel tries to find their own reality. Kawalsky and O’Neill infiltrate deeper into the base to place the Ancient power modulator. Teal’c brings Sam to the command center where Apophis is interrogating and torturing General Hammond. Teal’c is left with the two ‘prisoners’ and with the help of Sam he tells General Hammond that he is there to help them.

Samantha dails up to the Asgard with the automated dialing device, as she makes her way to the Stargate she is almost caught by a Jaffa. Teal’c tells him to stand down, and while Samantha make her way through the Stargate to ask the Asgard to help her. Everyone else is captured by Apophis men when he finds out that Teal’c betrayed him. While interrogating them a Jaffa guard runs in and tells Apophis that the Asgard are on their way. They leave quickly and the Asgard free Earth from the Goa’uld.

Daniel finds the way back home, and while Sam watches through the mirror. General Hammond, Kawalsky and Samantha say goodbye to them. Samantha Carter finds it hard to say goodbye to Jack O’Neill, her almost husband. Even though she knows that he is not her Jack, every bit reminds her of him, she kisses him.

With these alternative universes and realities it was more difficult to write a proper review. I really hope that I didn’t confuse you too much. But then again if I did maybe it is a good idea to watch the episode.
