So it's almost time for Brooke and Sam's parents to get married, but Sam has run off in search for Brooke's mother. She is looking for Kelly Foster, a photographer in the Bay area of northern California. She finds her, but Kelly denies she was ever married to Mike McQueen but later.......well, we'll see.

Back at school, Brooke is worried about where Sam could be. Nicole thinks Sam will show up and tells Brooke to just go ahead with the bridal shower plans.

Meanwhile, Sugar, Josh, Harrison and Emory get fake ID"s and plan on going to a strip club. Emory has fake excuses for each of them so they can get out of class. So they go to the club called "Breasts and Thighs",it is a strip club and chicken joint (too funny). Now you have to realize that at this point in the show there is background music playing and the words to the song are "Horny, horny...gee I'm horny. Horny cool boys...I need a stripper or I'll pop my zipper. Wacky, horny cool boys." God, the writers were good in this show! But you have to hear the song to appreciate it. So anyway, they arrive at the "Breast and thighs" and get turned away. The guy at the door knows Sugar is not of age and tells them if they come back with an adult who doesn't care, then they can come in.

The girls have looked for Sam all day with no luck! But Lily and Carmen want to tell someone, but Brooke says no and doesn't want to ruin the bridal shower. In the meantime, Sam calls and leaves a message on Lily's phone. The girls are a bit worried.
Kelly finds Sam sleeping outside and decides to talk to her. She admits she is Brookes mother. Inside the gallery, Sam admires a picture of "Mother and child". They talk, and Kelly sees that maybe she needs to see Brooke and be a mother. But then her husband walks in and is introduced to Sam. He has no idea Kelly has a child.

Now..back at home the guys decide to take Mike (Brookes dad) out for a bachelor party and take him to the strip club. Mike is blindfolded and has headphones on, and has no idea where he is going. Harrison convinces the bouncer to let them in. (funny scene) So now they are all seated and waiting for the fun to begin (Mike is still blindfolded and ears covered)... the music starts and out comes Mary Cherry and Nicole. The guys are disgusted that they are not looking at real strippers. Mike finally takes off his blindfold and a undercover security officer busts them for underage stripping in the club.

Kelly tells Sam she can't go back but Sam needs to go back. She gives Sam the Mother/child picture.

Back at the shower, Sam's mom finally finds out Sam is missing. The boys show up at the house and tell Jane that Mike is in jail and then Sam walks in. Sam tells Brooke that she wants to share her mom, Jane. Sam gives her mom a wedding gift... the "Mother and child" picture. Jane loves it!

I thought this episode was both touching and funny. The whole storyline with the guys was hilarious. What Sam learned about Brookes mom , brought her closer to Brooke.

Did anybody else like this episode? Leave me a line or two in the comments.
Next week: "Hard on the Outside, Soft in the Middle"

  2. Karen, I haven't been able to watch Popular, since I've been on vacation but I love the episodes you have chosen to recap, and I can't wait for the next one. I will have to see if I can find the DVD somewhere to rewatch it.

  4. Karen has gotten me hooked on this show. My husband and I have decided to get rid of cable (prices keep soaring and there is nothing to watch), so Popular will be my summer watch. I am not sure if I have seen the complete first season but what I saw I love, WHERE WAS I WHEN IT RAN THE FIRST TIME ON REAL TV?

I have 2 favorite characters, Sam, and Harrison with Carmen a close third. Karen thanks for introducing me to this show. I will be waiting for season 2, Oh and by the way how many seasons do they have?
