DVD Season 1

This episode takes us deeper into the world of reapers and what George’s death has done to her family, especially Reggie. Let’s start with Reggie because she’s wonderful. She’s a lot like George, keeping everything in, except for directing a few well placed snarky comments at their mother. We find out Reggie has been stealing toilet seats from everyone. She’s pretty crafty at it, telling neighbors her mother doesn’t allow her to use the bathroom. We later see Reggie in her own bathroom, kneeling in front of a Ouija board placed on top of the toilet seat. I adore Reggie.

This episode takes us deeper into the world of reapers and what George’s death has done to her family, especially Reggie. Let’s start with Reggie because she’s wonderful. Meanwhile, George is still struggling with the idea of taking people’s souls and having to earn money. Mason scores her a mostly eaten plate of French fries at Der Waffle Haus but other than that, she’s basically on her own as far as money goes. She decides not to show up to the Waffle Haus for her appointment Post-it and Rube shows up at her apartment. She doesn’t let him in but the Post-it gets to her anyway and despite trying to ignore it, we find out that whether or not you reap a soul, if it’s their time, it’s their time.

So, some souls go bad and some, well, they don’t go anywhere and that is a terrible thing. Rube drags George down to the morgue, where she sees that her 8pm is indeed dead. She says, “Correct me if I'm wrong, but mission accomplished!” and Rube replies, “You're wrong. That was me correcting you.” George still refuses the hand fate has dealt her.

    Rube: “You had an appointment.”
George: “I didn’t make an appointment.”
    Roxie: “Beat her.”

Rube shows George that her 8pm is still in his body, having experienced his own autopsy. He’s emotionally screwed up from the experience and Roxie leads him off to his own pretty, pretty lights. Rube tries to explain again that she doesn’t have a choice but of course, he does it in that wonderfully patient and yet completely impatient Rube way.

Rube: “You like spaghetti, George? I like spaghetti. I like board games. I like grabbing a trifecta with that long shot on top. That ozone smell you get from air purifiers. And I like knowing the space between my ears is immeasurable. Mahler's first, Bernstein conducting. You've got to think about all the things you like and decide whether they're worth sticking around for. And if they are, you'll find a way to do this.”

He explains she either does this job or she goes to a place where she doesn’t get to like anything anymore. George visits her old house and follows Reggie to her toilet seat tree. It’s actually really beautiful. The next day, George (aka Mildred Hagen) goes to Happy Time to get a job because as she says, “I wasn’t done liking things. I wasn’t done not liking things. I wasn’t done.”

    Best Moments:
+ Roxie telling the guy she just gave a ticket to that she was going to mess him up, but in better words.
+ Mason stealing money out of the parking meters only to be struck by Roxie’s meter maid mobile at top speed.

And one bonus quote because I really liked the randomness of it and how Rube said it:
Rube: “You know, I’ll never understand the instinct to miniaturize food.”
    George: “It’s bite size.”

So what were your favorite moments and quotes? Which reaper is your favorite? I know, I know, that’s pretty hard to decide. Leave your TwoCents in the comments and we’ll discuss it!

Next week, we’re going on to the third episode, Curious George in which George continues to visit her family and starts work at Happy Time.
