It’s the end of the world. Any normal person would be freaking out, but when you are Buffy Summers, this is a normal Saturday night for you. But this time is a little different. In the 7th season that Buffy was on, Buffy and the Scoobie gang always saved the day, but this truly the end. And it definitely lived up to my expectations. So lets take a look at the Series Finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Chosen”.

The chemistry between Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz is undeniable as we watch the two of them fight Caleb (Nathan Fillion of Firefly). I think that the best baddie death ever is when Buffy takes Caleb out when she clices him in half from the crotch up. Yeah, remind me not to piss her off! Angel gives Buffy the amulet that is ment to be worn by someone with a soul that is more than human. Of course, Angel thinks it is him, but he is not the only soulful vampire in town. This lead to a discussion of Buffy and Spike and her feelings for him. As Angel leaves Buffy’s side for the last time, she says that there may be a future for them, someday. This brings up a discussion I want to hear your Two Cents about, did you like Buffy better with Angel or Spike. Who do you think she should have ended up with?

When Buffy arrives home, she finds that Dawn is back and she is not happy that her sister had Xander drug her to take her away. Buffy goes to talk to Spike about the amulet. He is not happy with her as he beats on a punching bag with Angel’s face on it. He saw Buffy and Angel together and was jealous. She tells him of the amulet and that only a champion can use it. She tries to convince him that she should stay downstairs with him, but he tells her he doesn’t want her around and she has ”Angel Breath”. He tells he still has his pride, which only lasted so long as we see her come back with him. Buffy cannot sleep as the First comes to her and taunt her.

The next day, Buffy shares her plan with the Potential Slayers and the Scoobie gang. This would require Willow to use magic again. This worries her (as she went psycho and tried to destroy the world in season 6 because of magic). She tells Kennedy (potential slyer and girlfriend) to kill her if she goes bad again. It is time for bed as we see our couples spend their last potential night together.

It is time for battle. As they arrive at the Sunny dale High for the last time, everyone gets to work getting ready for the final battle. Once everyone leave, we are left with the main four, Buffy, Giles, Willow, and Xander. This is the point in the episode where I lost it as they talk about what they are going to do later, although we all know this is it. Each one walks off to their stations as we are left with Buffy walking alone. She arrives at the opening to the Hellmouth as Spike, Faith and the Potential Slayers are waiting for her. They slayers cut their hands a drip blood on the seal, opening the Hellmouth. They climb down to find an army of Ubervamps waiting for them. The battle begins. Willow is able to take the power of the Slayer and give it to all the girls in the world.

Unfortunately just as the battle begins, Buffy gets stabbed from the back. As she lays there and bleed, she sees many girls fall. Lives are lost, including Anya. Principal Woods gets stabbed. Is all lost? Will they lose? Of course not!

As the First appears and is tormenting Buffy, she gets pissed. She stands up and is ready to kick some butt. And she is not the only one. But something is happening. The amulet Spike has shoots light up and everything begins to shake. They call for everyone to retreat. But Buffy stays with Spike. They have a sweet moment where Buffy is crying and tells Spike she loves him. "No you don't. But thanks for saying it." I love that. Even in a sweet moment, Spike keeps his whit. She leaves as he begins to disentigrate.

Everyone loads the bus as Sunnydale begins to crumble. Buffy has not made it back, but we see her jumping across buildings (a little silly) and finally jump on top of the bus. They make it far enough away and watch as Sunnydale sinks into the ground. What do we do now? Giles suggests a Hellmouth in Cleveland. AS the episode ends, we see Buffy standing there with a relieves smile on her face. The end.

Well, that was number 10 on my list. Would it have made your top Buffy episodes list? If so, where at? Next week I will be reviewing number 9 on my list, “Replacement”, season 6, episode 3. We get to see Xander shine in this one! Please leave your two cents in the comment section or e-mail me at JennyD@thetwocentscorp.com. I will see you next week!

  2. Ah, this recap makes me want to run home and watch it again! As much as I don't like the "potentials" episodes, I love this battle scene.

And I am a Spuffy fan til the end. Never liked Angel much.

  3. Aahhh, the first one to take sides. Well Theresa, I will be honest, I am very torn over the 2. I think that thereare aspects to each relationship I like. I am curious to see what others think!

  4. In all the scenarios I created in my head I never thought the last episode would end up with Buffy getting her life back. That shot at the end, that pushes in on Buffy while the others are talking around her always makes me misty. I love this episode. The music, the emotion... everything! I think Whedon made us feel all the different emotions we would have felt in every scenario. I felt anyone could die. I wouldn't put it past him. He's done it before. I keep wondering will they win, will they lose. Everything. It's brilliant to me. My favorite moment is the Xander, Willow, Buffy, Giles walking down the hall of the high school being as casual as can be during an apocalypse. This episode is definitely in my top ten. As for Buffy Angel, Buffy Spike...I don't know. At least Buffy and Spike can be intimate. Plus Angel fell in love with Cordelia. So anything can happen. I still vote for Angel Spike. Great choice and review Jenny.

  5. Mat-That moment in the hall was probably my all time favorite moment ever on an episode. That is wher I lose it every time!
True, B&S can be intimate, but that ep where he practically tries to rape her freaked me out to the two of them. Honestly, I liked her best with Riley, too bad he had to get married.....
    Thanks for the comment :)

  6. Angel + Buffy
    Spike + Buffy

    Hmmm...

I'd have to say that each vampire dates a different Buffy so it's kind of apples and oranges.

Buffy who dates Angel is a bit of a wide-eyed innocent happy-go-lucky teen. She's all new to relationships and love and even fighting evil.

But the Buffy who dates Spike is hardened, bitter, rougher in so many ways.

Each Buffy is a perfect fit for the vampire she dates at the time.

That said, I am a total sucker for epic love and tragic love - Angel and Buffy are both.
