The finale of season 4 of Desperate Housewives was 2 hours long. It was two hours of suspense, two hours of joy, two hours of anger, and the last two minutes of the show have no words to describe the feelings that occur. I fear that the only way to recap this episode is to give you bullet points of main events. No review will ever do this finale justice, but I’m going to do my best to try!

Hour 1 - "The Gun Song"
    • Susan and Mike have a beautiful baby boy named Maynard. You might say that it’s a weird name, but the fact that he’s named after Mike’s grandfather whose life story is amazing.
    • The head of the clergy at Bree’s church hit on her, and Orson came to her rescue when the guy wanted to call her a “slut” in front of the entire congregation. But Orson isn’t quite the knight in shining armor, he’s somewhat stalking Bree.
    • Gabby had a fake affair with the “handyman” that bugged Ellie’s room, and Gabby helped Ellie escape from the cops.
    • Lynette got arrested for child abuse, but Tom got Kayla to admit the truth. She then refused to tell the cops unless she could stay at the house, but Tom had somebody on the phone that heard it all. Kayla leaves the Scavo house to live with her grandparents, and I couldn’t be happier about that.
    • Katherine starts to truly fear Wayne, and Adam comes to her rescue, but not before Wayne knocks him unconscious and kidnaps him.
    • Lee and Bob are having a commitment ceremony, which adds some light comedy in such an intense episode. Bree and Katherine are going to cater the wedding, and they start planning it at the shooting range.

    Hour 2 - "Free"
    • Wayne has beat Adam so badly that his face is truly distorted. He then goes after Katherine, but I’ll highlight that part in a minute.
    • Julie gets accepted not only to Princeton, but their summer internship. Susan has a little trouble letting her go, but in the end, comes around to the idea. I cannot be happier for Julie and it makes me so happy to see her branch out of Fairview.
    • Katherine fears what Wayne is going to do and the police won’t help her, so she tells Bree that she’s backing out of catering, and the rest of the girls are going to help her with it. Bree ends up doing a lot of it on her own, giving us some comedy during the segment.
    • Tom is a bit angry at the situation, but not at Lynette, at what happened with every little thing. He tires to give advice to Lee about his relationship with Bob, but it backfires for a little while. Tom then speaks with both men at the same time, and his love for Lynette shines through. Their love is one that’s going to last forever.
    • Ellie calls Gabby and asks her to collect her teddy bear that her “father gave her” when she was younger. Gabby finds over $100,000 inside and is planning on using it to get out of debt. Ellie comes back to the house to try to get it back, but the Solis’ fight back. Ellie escapes into the Mayfair house. I’ll get back to that in a moment as well.
    • Katherine tells Dylan the whole story, leaving watchers still wondering what happened. And here is where I’m going to get into the main suspense of the episode…
    • Wayne makes it to Katherine’s house and holds her up at gunpoint. Like I said, Ellie escapes to their house, and thinking that she’s clever; she grabs a knife and threatens Wayne to not make a move. He ends up shooting her, and she dies right there. Bree finds out that Katherine could have worked the commitment ceremony and goes over to her house, where she is also taken hostage.
    • We finally find out the truth about Katherine. Years ago when she ran away from Wayne, he found her at the house on Wisteria Lane. She fights him year’s back and thinks that she wins. Later that night, her and her aunt find Dylan dead under a bookshelf. She had tried to climb up to grab a doll that Wayne gave her. Katherine then buries her so she couldn’t be charged for murder, goes to an orphanage, and selects another girl that looks exactly like Dylan. So, Dylan is not Wayne’s but she’s not Katherine’s either.
    • Katherine kills Wayne, but the girls stick up for her, and she is not arrested.

The final 2 minutes-5 YEARS LATER
    • Bree has a published cookbook, Andrew is professional, and Orson is still in the picture.
    • Gabby has gotten bigger and has two daughters.
    • Lynette and Tom are still together, but Porter and Preston are in and out of Juvenile Hall.
    • Katherine and Dylan are happy, and Dylan is engaged.
    • Susan is no longer with Mike, but some other guy. (THIS MADE ME SO MAD).

This is going to be very interesting as to how they are going to do this “5 years later” concept. But that’s enough of my opinion; I want and NEED to know yours. Please leave your TwoCents about the episode in the comments. You can also email me at Faye@thetwocentscorp.com anytime. Also, if you want to see the finale, but missed it on television, please visit ABC.com to watch the full episode!

I’ll see you all this summer when I do my Gilmore Girls review, but other than that, until next year, have a desperately good summer!

  2. ok...so first of all, who is the guy Susan is with?
Second....love the fact that Tom finally has the guts to prove that the daughter was a sneaky SOB and was framing Lynnette. Kudo's to him. and also loved that he said he loved his wife so much when talking to the gay guys.
Third: I admit I cheered Katherine to pull the trigger.
Now...my prediction is that when the show comes back (5yrs later) that Kayla is going to seek revenge(she should be about 17 then).
Dying to know who Susan is with and where is Mike!?

  3. I stopped wtaching this show last season. But accidentally - out of boredom - watched the finale.

"That guy" with Susan is actor GALE HAROLD who rocks the world! So I don't care why he's there or what he's doing - he single-handedly has me watching next season.
