Our hero Liz Lemon was forced to socialize with her ex-boyfriend, “The Beeper King,” a couple weeks ago. This week another ex-boyfriend re-enters her life, Floyd (Jason Sudeikis, SNL). Unlike the “Subway Hero,” Liz feels felt that Floyd was the one that got away. So, she must show him that she has moved on without him and put on display what he is missing out on after leaving New York for Cleveland. How did it go for Lemon?

Floyd called Liz to tell her he will be in New York and asked if he could stay at her place. In an effort to impress him, Liz puts on a sexy red dress and gets help from the TGS stage crew to make her look amazing – complete with off-stage fan to get her hair flowing. In awe, Floyd asks her out to dinner. Liz gives him a key to her apartment so he can enter while she’s at work.

Liz and Floyd have such a great time that evening that they lose track of time. It is now 4:30 AM and Floyd has to get to the airport for his flight home. He gives her a kiss on the cheek and gets in a cab for the airport. The next morning Floyd shows up at Liz’s front door because his airline went out of business without a moment’s notice. They begin to talk about what went wrong between them and Liz brings up the female who answered his phone when she called Floyd after he moved to Cleveland (see Season 1). Floyd suddenly received a message on his phone for a new flight out. He gets out of explaining it.

When Liz is power walking down the street she notices someone familiar sitting on a sidewalk bench – its Floyd eating ice cream. Turns out he lied about finding another flight and didn’t want to talk about the other woman…turns out there were other women, once he moved back to Cleveland. Liz declares she is done with him, but after speaking with Jack, she realizes she had a good thing with Floyd and doesn’t want to lose him as at least as a friend. She rushes to the airport, buys a cheap ticket (to Montreal) to get to his gate, devours her sandwich and dipping sauce (see below) to get past security, and catches Floyd before he boards his plane. She apologizes, they agree to be friends and stay in touch, and Liz even tells him to keep her apartment key. Foreshadowing? I think so.

What happened in the rest of the building? Here you go:

    - Once a year the teamsters buy sandwiches for everyone. This year the TGS staff gets greedy and eats Liz’s sandwich that’s sitting on her desk. She finds out and threatens to cut everyone a chin if she doesn’t get another sandwich. In order for the staff to get Liz another sandwich from the teamsters, they must win a drink-off against them. It’s in their union contract. Jenna, Tracy, Frank, and even Kenneth join forces to save their faces.

    - After being ousted as head of NBC, Jack is forced to take office on the 12th floor. We don’t really find out goes on on the 12th floor, only that it’s not taken seriously. Jack makes visits to Don Geiss’ hospital in an attempt to wake him from his diabetic coma. Jack then turns to desperation and at the end of the episode we learn, with Liz Lemon, from a news report that Jack accepts a position on President Bush’s staff.

Next week is the season finale. How do you think this season of 30 Rock will wrap it up? How soon do you think we will see Floyd re-enter Liz’s life? What would you do for your favorite sandwich?

  2. Blerg, Liz can do so much better than Floyd. I must say, that scene where she throws something at the dry-erase board and walks around threatening people with a pointy award and an oversized fork was amazing. I must have watched it five times.

Oh, Jack. I don't even know what to say about what's going on there other than that. I'm bummed there's only one episode left and I can't see how they can really wrap up the season in a good way. I'm sure it'll be a great episode but I'm also sure we'll all be itching for it to be September again.

  3. 30 Rock is hands down the best sitcom on television.
