"Samantha Who?" Recap & Review - "The Girlfriend"

Samantha Who?
“The Girlfriend”

Original Airdate: April 7, 2008

Hey kids! It’s time for everyone’s favorite blond amnesiac! Woo, “Samantha Who?” is back, baby!

Remember from last season, Todd was living in Sam’s apartment and Sam realized she wants Todd back, but he has a new girlfriend. This episode, Todd asks Sam to let Chloe (his new girlfriend) move in with him, but Sam is about to get evicted for subletting the apartment since it’s against the building rules.

It’s a new season and a new feel for TheTwoCents so I’m going to try something new here. Let’s do a contrast/compare with Old Sam and New Sam.

It’s a new season and a new feel for The Two Cents so I’m going to try something new here. Let’s do a contrast/compare with Old Sam and New Sam.

To get rid of the new girlfriend what would she do?

    Old Sam:

    • Hide Herpes cream in the medicine cabinet
    • Place fertility charts and ovulation detectors around the apartment
    • Put matchbooks with her number in boyfriend’s pocket

    New Sam:

    • Make a failed attempt to convince Chloe that Sam and Todd slept together
    • Get herself thrown out of the apartment in her skivvies

Hmm…probably Old Sam’s tactics were more effective. It turns out Chloe is pretty much a brunette version of Old Sam after she confesses to defacing (literally!) her own stuffed animal and blaming it on Sam.

I really liked this episode but I have to say that I was very disappointed at the amount of interaction between Deanna (my favorite character) and Sam and Andrea and Sam. I like how Deanna represents the new Sam and Andrea represents the old Sam and there really wasn’t much of either going on in this episode. But, in the same vein as the Old Sam/New Sam contrast, I’m going to highlight my favorite things that happened with the Angel (Deanna) and the Devil (Andrea).

    Deanna’s Highlights:
    • “WoooOOoo”-ing when Sam makes plans to see Todd.
    • Wearing a Wonder Woman costume throughout 5th grade (Awesome!)
    • Enduring Regina’s awful makeover

    Andrea’s Lowlights:
    • Throwing pretzel pieces at the barista for mispronouncing her name
    • Reminding Sam of the nefarious ways she used to hook a man with a girlfriend
    • Lending Samantha a hideous skirt and awful gold lame jacket when she was sans clothes outside the apartment. She probably stopped at Goodwill on the way over and picked them up rather than lend Sam any of her actual clothes.

So what did you readers think? Good showing for the first show of the second season? Did you miss Deanna as much as I did?
