"Hell's Kitchen" Recap & Review - Day Four

Hell's Kitchen
"Day Four"

Original Air Date: April 22, 2008

This week on Hell's Kitchen, there's a pasta making challenge, more raw meat is served and a horrible accident takes place in the kitchen during service. Gordon announces that night's service will be a special family night and that they'll have to learn how to make pasta from scratch. He shows them how to do it and then gives them twenty minutes to make as much pasta as they can. For once, there isn't a total failure to complete the task properly, probably because there was no meat involved. Well, Matt was a bit of a waste, deciding to just stand there with his arms outstretched, awaiting the pasta to be hung on him rather than helping make the pasta.

The men end up with 5.48 pounds of acceptable pasta. The women manage 6.57 pounds, completely blowing the men out of the water. As usual, the men must prep the food for service and the women get to enjoy a day out on the Santa Monica Pier. The men blame Craig for the loss and Craig decides to hope various rides at the pier collapse or malfuction. There's a good loser for you. Because his team voted him the strongest, Ben must go outside and shovel horse crap from the petting zoo that's sprung up right out front for the kids. At service, Jen really steps up and rallies her team. I love that she's gone from being really arrogant and annoying to a total team player and a truly amazing leader. If she keeps this up, I really think she could win this whole thing. Gordon announces that the first team to finish all of their orders wins. Both teams do pretty well until Matt sends out raw chicken. Then, Shayna pours a whole mess of what appears to be alcohol into a pan, it creates a huge fire, Vanessa tries to move the pan and the oil splashes all over her hand. Once again, Gloria, who is still not Mary Ann, is also not very helpful. Vanessa, who is in a great deal of pain, is sent to the hospital to be treated. The rest of her team is very upset and shaken but they rally well. Later, Vanessa comes back for elimination and she's relatively all right.

When the men have six tickets left and the women have two, the men go about congratulating each other, especially Ben. This enrages Gordon who reminds them they're still behind and not even close to being done yet. Craig sends spaghetti with meatballs to the pass and it's supposed to be spaghetti with clams. He tries again but the pasta isn't cooked properly and the women finish their last ticket. They're instructed to assist the men, who refuse their help. Craig has a whiny fit when Gordon repeatedly asks him how long for pasta and Craig will not answer. Somehow, the men finally finish service.

    Who should be nominated:
    - Craig. He could not do pasta if his life depended on it and he could not, would not communicate with his team.
    - Matt. He served raw chicken, which is such a damning thing in Hell's Kitchen. He also messed up the burgers, making them small and he cooked them before they were even ordered.

Bobby nominates both Craig and Matt. Gordon pulls Ben up there as well and tells him how disappointed he is in him. Disappointment means you're safe. Disappointment means Gordon actually expected something out of you, which means he believed in you to some degree. Gordon asks them why they should stay and Ben says he'll give 100 percent. Matt says he'll give 125 percent. Hopeless Craig says, "I don't know percentages but just over that." Gordon shakes his head and I'm pretty sure my brain exploded. Surprise, surprise, math genuis Craig is sent home.

So, who do you think should have gone home? And here's the all important question: who do you think will win Hell's Kitchen? I am going to pick Jen. It's a bit of a risk as I don't know how well she cooks and designs her own dishes but she's one of the best leaders I've ever seen on Hell's Kitchen. Place your predictions now by leaving a comment! You can tell me, all your friends and everyone here a big I told you so if you're right.
