Homer decides to go on one last fast food bender before his big New Year diet. He hits all his favorite spots in the Springfield fast food district, including Chili Blasters, Captain Corndog’s Schnitzel Palace and of course the Krusty Burger where he starts a fire that burns down the entire neighborhood.
Mayor Quimby calls an emergency town meeting to pass a bond issue that will raise money to rebuild. The next election in Springfield is the presidential primary but that’s not until June so Diamond Joe moves the primary up to next Tuesday – making Springfield’s the first primary in the country.
Dan Rather, Jon Stewart and all the candidates hightail it over/up/down to Springfield. There is all kinds of political hubbub going on in town and Springfield doesn’t enjoy being in the national spotlight. They decide to stick it to the system and write-in their own candidate for President. Which leads to Ralph Wiggum being declared the new front runner in the race for the White House. Both the Democrats and the Republicans try to woo Ralph but eventually unite and both parties decide to endorse Ralph Wiggum for president in ’08.
