The Top Three Things I Learned from the Season Finale of The Amazing Race 12

    1. Even if you cart someone’s sorry backpack around the entire world, make one mistake and that someone will be right there, ready to rip you a new one.

Don and Nick didn’t have the best of luck on the final leg of the season. In the destination city of Anchorage, Nick misreads a clue instructing the teams to pick up outdoor gear at an outdoor gear store, costing them valuable time (they didn’t pick said outdoor gear up). Don is all over Nick about the mistake. This makes me laugh because Nick has carried Don the entire race! When was the last time you saw Don get to a clue box first and rip open the envelope? That’s right. Never. Team Nick & Don arrive at the mat last, but have a warm fuzzy moment reflecting on their entire adventure. They say they wouldn’t change a thing. If I were them, I’d make one slight change and get to the mat in first.

    2. If you try hard enough, you might be able to change a real jackass of a guy into a slightly less unpleasant jerk.

Ron and Christina did grow in their father/daughter dynamic during the show, but I’m still glad they didn’t win; I just can’t get over what a jerk he is. They were in the lead much of the leg but, according to the editors of The Amazing Race who can’t always be trusted, it all came down to the cab drivers. That, and the most complicated Roadblock ever created in the history of the world. Team Ron and Christina arrived in front of Phil in second place and also had some warm fuzzy moments about their both physical and emotional journey. They, too, wouldn’t change a thing. Hello?

    3. If you are the nice guys, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will finish last.

Whoo-hoo! My horses won! All through the race, I was amazed at how calm and collected TK and Rachel were. They didn’t fight, they looked on the bright side, they never gave up. It was Rachel’s cool head at that freakishly convoluted Roadblock that gave them the edge. I think TK put it best when at the finish line he said: "Being able to do the entire race, not compromising our relationship in any way and in the process making great friendships just makes winning it that much sweeter. Nice guys can definitely finish first and I think we proved it with this." Indeed.
