I know, I know, I let you down last week and didn’t write a review. I wish I could have. But the fine people at TWOP wrote a great one, so you can read it HERE.

But on to this week, shall we? It IS Slapsgiving after all!

Now Kids… Ted and Robin used to have an ‘in-joke’ that would have them salute anytime someone said an expression with a military work (i.e. General Knowledge). But now that their friends as exes they don’t do it anymore. Also, you should never ever be alone together with an ex. That’s the moral of today.

Lilly and Marshall shall be cooking Thanksgiving for the group. However, according to Marshall it’s Slapsgiving. Barney is trembling. It’s one day of the year we gather together to give thanks and give slaps! (Remember the slap bet from last year? (A running gag for everyone in HIMYM land.) Barney can’t believe he’ll be slapped on Thanksgiving. He miscounted! (He always miscounts the days in October.) Robin is bringing Bob to Thanksgiving. Her 41 year old new boyfriend is not welcomed by the group since it is so new.

That evening the gang is gathering to bake pies at Robin’s house and just to be safe, Ted is going to arrive about an hour or so after everyone so they aren’t alone. When Ted arrives they end up (all together now) alone, everyone else bailed.

The next morning Thanksgiving has come to New York. Robin arrives at the apartment and she and Ted instantly go to Lilly and Marshall (independently) to explain the weirdness of their being alone last night. Long story short – awkward small talk and then they (all together now) slept together. They all think it’s a bad idea except for Barney who is trying to get a ‘relapse five’. That’s when you high five, then it’s awkward for a little while, then you high five again. Ted and Robin agree that they obviously can’t be just friends and that the friendship looks to be coming to an end.

Marshall can’t wait to slap Barney and Barney starts to freak out. But all this is getting to Lilly, who as host and slapbet commissioner puts an end to it. No slap shall happen. Throughout the meal, Barney turns all of Marshall’s earlier slap-tastic statements around since he knows he can’t be slapped today. There is a cloud over this meal though. Lots of unhappiness. Until Bob mentions a major buzzkill in his family – and Ted and Robin return to their in-joke.

Barney won’t stop killing Marshall for his lack of slapness until the right moment when Lilly changes her mind and Marshall slaps the hell out of Barney. Then to add insult to injury, performs a little song on the piano for Barney. Want the lyrics? Well, that’s why I’m here for you! (Also you can watch Marshall’s Music Video of it HERE.)

    What is this feeling
That’s put you in your place?
A hot red burning on the side
    Of your face.
You feel the blood rush to your cheek,
Tears start to fill your eyes.
And your lips are trembling but you can’t speak
You’re trying, oh you’re trying not to cry.
Ya just got slapped (oh oh)
Across the face my friend. (oh ohhh)
Ya just got slapped (whoa oh oh oh oh)
Yes that really just happened. (oh ohohoh)
    Everybody saw it,
    Then everybody laughed and clapped.
    It was awesome.
The way that you just got slapped.

    Happy Slapsgiving everybody!
