If the E.R. episodes had themes, I think this one would be Chaos. It proves the chaotic nature of an E.R, shows the reality and importance of communication and how emotion should never be brought into a E.R. doctor's job.
Let's start with the emotion. Morris seems very shaken after a phone call. He continues to make the wrong judgment calls in the E.R. and really cannot focus. In the end of the episode, we find out that his father died. Sam also gets caught making out with a police officer in the E.R.
Communication is a huge part in this episode. We have more of the interns pushed upon us; one of them has a crush on Abby. With all the chaos in the rooms, the treatments for the two volunteer police officers, who were shot, gets confused and neither are able to be kept stabilized for long.
Neela and the surgeon? He was her mentor, once upon a time, I believe. So, why would this coupling happen? I wish Shane West would come back on the show permanently. I loved Ray with Neela.
There is also a point made about high school wrestlers and being anemic. The problem crops up more and more in high school wrestlers these days, and E.R. tastefully makes a point about how dangerous it really is.
Overall, the fast pace of this show keeps you hooked. I liked this episode. Not much build-up to the characters, but really shows truth in the E.R.
