Well, here we are – at the end of another volume. It was filled with highs and lows, but I have to admit that towards the end, there were more highs. And while the finale wasn’t picture perfect, it did set us up for the next volume titled ‘Redemption’. This is the last recap until September, so let’s cut to the chase.

Well, here we are – at the end of another volume. It was filled with highs and lows, but I have to admit that towards the end, there were more highs. And while the finale wasn’t picture perfect, it did set us up for the next volume titled ‘Redemption’. This is the last recap until September, so let’s cut to the chase.
Hiro and Ando are outside of Building 26, but their plans are thwarted when Hiro starts having nosebleeds, ear bleeds, and intense pain from stopping time. Ando expresses concern that using his ability may make his head explode, but this is a risk Hiro is willing to take. They manage to freeze everyone inside the building and switch captured heroes with agents. After they free Mohinder (who was captured at Coyote Sands), he tells Hiro that his body is rejecting his ability like a virus. This doesn’t stop Hiro from stopping time one more time to tranquilize Danko, thus eliminating him from the rest of the episode.
Noah, Angela, and Claire are trying to get back to Washington when they drive past construction. Knowing that it’s a ruse, Noah stops the car in the middle of nowhere and has Angela and Claire bail out. When he starts down the road alone again, his car is stopped by police and stormed by agents. He’s immediately taken to Building 26 and locked up. Angela and Claire make it all the way to D.C. but they split up. Angela says she needs to find Matt so that he can save Nathan somehow, and Claire’s goal is to find Nathan, make sure it’s the real Nathan and not shape shifting Sylar, and get to the President to warn him.
After trying to kill Sylar and failing, Danko can only listen as Sylar explains that the shape shifting allows him to move the kill spot from the back of his brain to another location on his body. Powerless to stop him, Sylar shifts to look exactly like Danko and goes into the hallway to fire on his own team. Then, he shifts to Taub, and when the rest of the agents arrive, they toss Danko in a cell with Noah. Noah tells Danko that they’ll have to work together to catch Sylar and just as they shake on it, Hiro begins the time freeze. When time gets going again, Noah immediately knows what happened and Danko heads to a medical supply kit. He tells Noah that one of the tranquilizers in the kit would be enough to knock out an elephant, let alone Sylar. While Noah’s back is turned, Danko moves in to stick it to him when Hiro moves in and does his thing. A thankful Noah gets on the phone to Claire to make sure she’s found Nathan. When he asks how she can be sure it’s the real Nathan, Sylar’s voice takes over. “Because it’s me,” he says ominously.
Sylar has left Nathan’s body in the bathroom of his office and with the ability to see the history of any object he touches, convinces Claire that he’s the real deal after touching her necklace and telling her all about Mexico. Claire realizes it’s not him when she sees him sign with his left hand versus his right, but soon enough it’s too late to do anything about it. Sylar has her alone in a hotel suite (the hotel where the President is delivering a speech) and puppets her to serve them both wine. (When did he get that power, by the way? Or was he just using his telekinesis to move her?) Peter finds Nathan, and together they storm the suite, getting there just as Claire is thrown through the door. The plan is for Peter to absorb Sylar’s power in order to stop him. While she’s locked out a short fight ensues, ending with Peter’s face bloody and Sylar and Nathan nowhere to be seen. Peter says they went out the window, but after he and Claire leave, they come crashing back into the room. Without preamble, Sylar cuts Nathan’s throat and kills him, then takes his form and heads down to the hotel kitchen. He runs into a secret service agent and takes his form in order to join the President’s convoy. He wants to get close to the man; shake his hand and learn his secrets before killing him and taking over. When he’s alone with the President, Sylar reaches out and shakes his hand before realizing too late that something strange is happening. Before he can think about it, a tranquilizer is being shoved into his neck. Out of all the powers he could have absorbed, Peter got the shape shifting.
Meanwhile, Angela makes it back to D.C. with a reluctant Matt. He walks into the suite first and tells her that she doesn’t want to see, but she pushes past him. Screaming over the loss of her son, she cradles him close to her body. Her dream clearly showed Matt saving Nathan and now she’s looking at her dead son. Noah arrives and the three of them come up with a plan. He’s sent Peter and Claire on a wild goose chase to look for Nathan. Meanwhile, Noah and Angela want Matt to brainwash Sylar into believing he is Nathan. It takes a ton of convincing, but finally he jumps on board. The three of them lie to Claire and Peter and later, all of them (including Hiro, Ando, and Mohinder) burn the body of the original shape shifter, who died while pretending to be Sylar. Together, Noah, Angela, and not-Nathan re-create The Company.
Now, our glimpse of ‘Redemption’: One of the former Building 26 agents comes home to find water spilling over his sink. He follows the path of the water to his living room where a body forms out of the water. It’s the last of the Tracy/Nikki triplets, and she tells the agent that he’s ‘number four’ before killing him. Later, not-Nathan is reading a paper detailing the fourth mysterious drowning in the area when Angela arrives to take him to lunch. He complains that he hasn’t really felt like himself lately, but before we can focus too long on Angela’s stricken face, he walks to a clock in the room and quietly says that it’s running a minute and a half too fast.
That was the end, folks. One thing I didn’t mention because apparently it wasn’t a big deal to the writers, was Nathan’s decision to show the secret service agents that he could fly. How does that go without being spoken about in Washington? Especially since not-Nathan is in office? And what did Angela and Noah do with the real Nathan’s body?
