    Day 7: 1:00AM – 2:00AM

As the real time clock ticks towards the end of the 7th day, the country is still swimming in terrorism and bad behavior. Jack is still fighting away with his newly acquired infectious disease, Olivia has a blackmailer on her hands and a fellow American is threatening to attack his own country.

Tony is still on the Starkwood base and has discovered that they have surface-to-surface missiles, which now explains to them why the President called off the air strike. Jack calls in to President Taylor to tell her that he believes that Tony can destroy the rockets before they can be launched. She doesn’t give him an answer, which Jack takes as an authorization to move forward with the plan.

Jonas and Greg arrive at the White House. Meanwhile, Tony takes one of the baddies hostage and starts his mission.

    1:17

Jonas and Greg sit with the President to have his chat with her. His grand idea is that he wants Starkwood to be involved in the military decision process for the country. She isn’t interested to hear about it considering he’s threatening to kill some of the citizens of the very same country. Back at Starkwood, Tony sets the C4 to blow. But one of the guys that he knocked out comes to and disarms him and the detonator falls into a sewer trap. The other guy quickly presses the government breach code and the tech guys start the launch sequence. Tony is able to reach the detonator and jumps from the huge explosion. Larry gathers his men to rush the compound. At the White House, Tim pulls the President out of her meeting with Jonas to tell her of the explosion that she “doesn’t know about”. And then comes one of the happier moments of the season when she comes back in the Oval Office and arrests Jonas. (Yaaay!). However, he has his last minute evil guy threat that he is only a cog in a large machine and she will be up against more of them soon.

    1:31

The President calls Jack and thanks him for giving her an option in a difficult situation. He appreciates it, but reminds her that it was Tony’s actions that helped her on this occasion. He starts to ask her if she’ll consider this in Tony’s future judgment of past actions, but forgets what he was going to say. She did understand him and told him she will consider what Tony did today. Renee calls Larry who updates her on the situation and tells her that Tony is alive. She tells him that Kim Bauer (who didn’t see that coming?) is there with the hope that her stem cells will help her dad. That is, if they both cooperate. Tony gives himself up to the authorities officially. Renee tells Jack that Kim is there and he freaks out on her. He is angry that Renee went against his wishes and brought her into his current situation. But Renee surprises him and tells him that Kim has been trying to see him all day, starting at his Senate hearing that morning. He then agrees to see her.

    1:43

In an emotional scene, Jack & Kim are tearfully reunited. She apologized for blaming him for anything regarding her problems. And he admitted that he thought her life would be better without him. She offers to help him with the stem cell treatment, but Jack declines. He tells her that he doesn’t want any risk to her at all, especially for the small chance that an experimental treatment would work. He feels another twitch and tells her he has to go, and they hug and say goodbye. Back at the base, a rogue Starkwood agent shoots an FBI soldier, but is then taken captive by another. The FBI agent opens the bag he had with him and a canister with the bio-weapon was inside. (Natch). He calls Larry but is then killed by the rogue agent who takes off with the canister.

    1:54

Larry’s copter catches up with the rogue agent’s vehicle and lands to confront him. They get in a gunfight, and Larry gets hit. Tony moves above him while Larry tries to warn him that the agent is moving in with a shotgun. Then, in the biggest “WHAT THE?” moment of the season, Tony suffocates Larry and kills him!! He tells the agent to find a hiding place and he will contact him soon.

Again, I have to say WHAT THE?!? I’ve been rooting for Tony not to be killed and the stinker kills off Larry? I loved Larry and was actually hoping he’d be back next season. (Well, we always have flashback scenes). Obviously there is plenty of time for more terror attacks so I knew something was going to happen… I just didn’t see that one coming. I loved Kim’s return. And I credit Elisha Cuthbert for showing up for one scene and it’s a weep fest. That couldn’t have been easy. I thought it was a great episode, and it looks like it will come down to the wire as usual. What did you think? Am I the only fool who didn’t see Tony being a bad guy?

  2. I miss Larry. Call me a nerd, but I really liked the guy, and was pulling for him to make it through the season and possibly into next. Though I guess with his ambiguous relationship with Renee he was probably just a stumbling block to her inevitable hookup with Jack.

I can't wait to hear what Jeffrey Nordling has to say, as I hear he's on one of the DVD commentary tracks.

  3. If liking him makes you a nerd, then I am one too!

(Actually, I am one too.. Larry or not).

I would have liked to see them work together again too! I thought he was a great character. You're probably right about a hookup with Renee. I wasn't a big Audrey fan... and I do want to see Jack happy again. Hmm.

And I guess we now know the showdown this year... Jack and Tony.

  4. The Jack/Renee thing was pretty much confirmed by Howard Gordon in a TV Guide interview a few months ago. Pretty funny that he let that slip on a show where Kiefer Sutherland is afraid to say anything. (I wasn't a big Audrey fan either; I found myself missing Teri once I saw how good of an actress Leslie Hope was on Line of Fire.)

Jeffrey Nordling was really awesome in the Larry role. Oh well, at least we have his stint in the third Mighty Ducks Movie.

  5. Really? I can't believe with all of the secrecy of the show that they would do that.

Well, they only have 6 hours left to hook up. They'd better work fast. That is, unless they start Day 8 with Jack waking up at her place.

  6. According to an interview he gave (http://www.tvguide.com/News/24-Scoop-romance-1003467.aspx), Day 7 has them laying the "emotional framework" for a relationship and they're getting their act together next season. (Which apparently is in New York.)

  7. Interesting article, Brittany. Thank you!

They actually missed one though... remember Kate from season 2? I remember a poll asking readers if they liked Kate or Audrey better. I actually preferred Kate. (No offense to Audrey).

You know, I think I'm more interested in his dating life then I was with my own! Sheesh!

  8. At least you *have* one, Jeff! I haven't missed an episode on its original air date since the show started.

I guess my big complaint is the fact that *every* show seems to need a love interest, and on this show with the real-time format it just doesn't work well. I remember the days when it used to be an interesting subplot on some shows, and now you just sort of expect that every show has some romantic pairing like pre-designed into it. As much as I root for Jack and want him to be happy, I'm all for leaving the guy alone once in awhile.

I will say, though, I am happy this season found a way to mix in Glenn Morshower. We needed our Aaron Pierce fix.

  9. Right on about Aaron! I thought they were going to kill him off at the White House. I'm glad they didn't. I'm miffed enough that they took Bill away from us.

And i see your point about romance. It shouldn't be necessary in every show. I hate forced anything in any show or film for that matter. I will say that you could have a significant in the show, but they don't have to be there all season. You could have someone at home who calls in every now & then. Obviously, in the case of Renee... she will be right along with him i'd guess. It's pretty implausible, but that said... the whole real time thing has brought alot of implausible moments with it I think.

  10. I've been a Glenn Morshower fan since he was on West Wing, so I always love to see him. Him and Michael O'Neill.

I always liked to joke I want to see an episode where nothing happens but Jack getting stuck in traffic. Or the day after the day, where it's 24 hours of Jack sleeping. During sweeps he can get up to make some waffles.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ha! That's funny.

I can picture Jack with a scowl on his face as he's in traffic, and he sees the top of a building blowing up because he couldn't get there.

And I think you brought up a good point about sleeping. Early on it seemed to me that they paid more attention to detail.. and you could see people looking haggard as the season went on. But now it seems that many of the characters are still fresh as daisies.

I'm 39... if I tried to stay up all night i'd look like the unabomber in the morning.
