Trust Me - Recap & Review - What's The Rush?

Trust Me
“What’s The Rush?”

Original Air Date: March 17, 2009

This week, we get a double dose of Trust Me and I, for one, like it. The first episode introduces us to Diane Cooper, head of marketing for Hydrenaline, an energy drink of the Red Bull variety. At their first meeting, she’s flirting with Mason as if her life depends on it. After the meeting, Mason brings this up to Conner, who barely looks up from his phone to tell Mason he doesn’t think she was. The surprising thing is not how Conner can be so oblivious but how okay the two of them are, considering last week’s major blowout. That’s Conner and Mason for you though. Somehow, they fight like sworn enemies and then brush it off.

Erin isn’t concerned at all about Mason going to have drinks with Diane or her rampant flirting and Mason is downright disappointed she isn’t jealous. For the pitch, Mason wants a sophisticated, corporate pick me up type of product sell and Conner wants to go with Hydrenaline taking you to eleven, making a more extreme version of you. Mason and Conner bicker about it and Conner says he knows he’s right because Diane told him so at dinner and that morning, in the shower. Conner says he’s the reason Rothman, Greene and Mohr have this opportunity in the first place. I love the way Conner kept this a secret until now. I wouldn’t think he’d be able to do that.

Mason and Diane go out for drinks and are supposed to be talking business but all Diane wants to do is talk about Conner and his player reputation. She tells Mason she’s got a dinner date and on his way out, Mason bumps into Conner, who calls himself the headliner. Diane is clearly wilder than Conner. She wants to go skinny dipping at night in her parent’s neighbor’s heated pool. Conner tries to say no but is easily swayed by Diane and her fast talking, fast driving ways. She lets Conner work the gear shift.

Meanwhile, Sarah signs up for a dating service called It’s Just Lunch. Tom and Hector warn her about using dating services and Sarah gets a call about lunch with an entrepreneur named Guy. The day of her big lunch date, Conner is office chair racing with Tom and knocks into her, spilling coffee all over her shirt. She later asks Conner if her shirt has been made see through by the coffee and he says no. Diane is there during all this and switches her psycho switch on.

See, Diane started a relationship with someone on a previous campaign and when the relationship went south, so did that agency. Tony tells Mason this, who tells Conner he can’t break up with her and he doesn’t care how worn out he is. Conner asks Sarah about how her lunch date went and it’s a nice moment. Thanks to Conner helping her rewrite the type of guy she’s looking for, she ends up with a truly wonderful guy, who is slightly awkward like her. I like the two of them together a lot. As they walk out of the office, they see that psycho Diane is waiting outside and she goes nuts on Sarah and Conner, claiming she knows something’s going on between them. Sarah can’t take her craziness and takes off for home. Conner goes and hides at Mason’s.

Mason’s had an interesting night. Erin shows up at the office wearing a long coat and nothing much under it. Tony walks by and thinks Mason is having sex with Diane. He knocks on the door and doesn’t believe Mason when he tells him Erin is in there. It’s a really funny moment and Tony actually smiles for once.

At the Hydrenaline meeting the next day, Mason pitches Conner’s wild night with Diane, complete with the gear shift and neighbor’s pool conversation. Diane seethes with rage but the Hydrenaline executive loves it. Mason and Conner go into Mason’s office happy and smug. I love seeing them actually work together and not fight for once! They do make a good team.

I am so happy for Sarah and her lunch date that went well. I hope it continues to go well because she deserves to be happy and she always seems to end up getting heartbroken. Your thoughts? Share your TwoCents with me in the comments!
