  1. This week, the detectives investigate the murder of a dancer and eventually, the murder of her murderer. Confused yet? Carol Burnett guest stars as Birdie Sulloway, a former dancer and star who lives with her nephew, Chet, played by Matthew Lillard. Things start going downhill when her newest husband ends up dead.

Five Noteable Things About This Week’s Episode:

    1. Carol Burnett is one of my all time favorite actresses and I don’t think anyone watched Annie more times than I did when I was a kid. I loved The Carol Burnett Show and I love it when she pops up on TV. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I heard she was going to be on SVU. One problem – they put her in a terribly written episode! The interrogation scenes were way too long and the storyline was a trainwreck. She definitely did the best she could with the material and there were even some really stellar moments, like when she’s watching old footage of herself dancing. All in all though, I wish she’d been in a better episode.

    2. Matthew Lillard also guest starred in this episode as Birdie’s “nephew” and lover. Like Carol Burnett, he did the best he could, given the terrible storyline and writing. One of my friends actually turned to me at one point and said, “I didn’t know he could act like that.” I adore him and I’m glad he stood out to more than just me as someone that shouldn’t have been so easily cast aside after the 90s were over.

    3. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why so much time was devoted to the new CSU tech, played by Noel Fisher from The Riches. The character is utterly annoying and it just seems silly to spend time proving this kid doesn’t know anything about the job yet. Did that annoy anyone else?

    4. The twist about Birdie and Chet sleeping together royally squicked me out and reminded me of the episode “Pique” from season two with Chad Lowe. The twist about Birdie and Chet having killed all of her previous husbands is interesting but it got completely bogged down by all of the talking and slowness of the episode. It’s a shame, it really is.

    5. I’ll give the episode this – the bedside confession entrapment scene was good. I liked the dynamic between Birdie and Chet and loved the intensity when she told him he should have known better than to mess with her. His shock feels genuine but she’s right, based on her past, he really should have known better.

  2. I might give you a run for the number of viewings of Annie. I even had the record! (It's like a really big and black CD!)

And I agree with you 100% about Matthew Lillard - he needs to work more! A lot more!

  3. Okay, you've got me beaten on the Annie record, lol! All these years later though, Annie never gets old.

I miss Matthew Lillard! He needs his own show. He'd do really well on a cable drama.
