This week, the episode starts out at trial, where a pediatrician is convicted on four counts of molesting teenage boys. The doctor soon ends up very, very dead, shot in the knee and bludgeoned with a golf club to the point where there’s blood spatter everywhere. Blame gets pointed everywhere, from the hospital that may or may not have known about him molesting patients to the patients themselves and their parents. This episode also marks the long-awaited return of a familiar face.

  1. This week, the episode starts out at trial, where a pediatrician is convicted on four counts of molesting teenage boys. Blame gets pointed everywhere, from the hospital that may or may not have known about him molesting patients to the patients themselves and their parents. This episode also marks the long-awaited return of a familiar face.

Five Notable Things About This Week’s Episode:

    1. Stephanie March is back! The detectives are all waiting for Kim Grayleck to show up at the crime scene and suddenly, there’s Alex Cabot. I honestly gasped out loud. I was looking down during the guest star credits and completely missed her name. I knew she was coming back but I try to stay relatively spoiler free and don’t always catch the new episode previews so I didn’t know she was coming back this week. I’m really excited she’s back. I like Michaela McManus and what she’s doing with the character but sometimes you just want to see an old friend.

    2. For all of you out there crying foul on Alex’s return due to a pesky witness protection issue, it’s explained that one of the people after her was murdered and the other was extradited. There were names involved in there but it’s been so long since I’ve seen that episode that the important part to me was that she doesn’t have to be in hiding anymore. Sure, there was that whole Conviction series but sadly, I didn’t watch it and I heard it wasn’t explained on that show.

    3. The case was really interesting. I loved the twist with the hospital knowing about the molestation and that they were making the patients sign non-arbitration papers. I also liked the performance of the woman who played Lillian, the nurse who told the patients not to sign the paper and was threatened with losing her job, pension and health insurance for her sick husband. The final twist with Jeff having chronic lead poisoning causing aggression and the stall in his development was a good one. When the episode first started, I thought the title had to do with leads in the case, as in how they didn’t trust the first witness. That’s the crazy thing about titles that can be read two different ways but it really helped keep the twist under wraps for me.

    4. Rounding out this week’s cast, Dr. Huang was in the episode and not just for five minutes! I know, he’s been in a few episodes this season but I like when he’s in a decent chunk of the episode. Also, I have to point out that Fredric Lehne guest starred as Clive Linwood, Jeff’s father. Now, while he was mostly wasted as a guest star for the first half of the episode, he had those two big emotional scenes toward the end which he really knocked out of the park. I love this actor. He’s so stellar as a bad guy on shows like Supernatural and Lost and it was cool to see him as a more sensitive character.

    5. Another tip for the Things You Learn From SVU file: If you eat meat, your fingerprints contain more salt and therefore will get etched into a gun if it goes off. Vegetarians supposedly don’t have this problem. Very interesting.

So, what did you think about this episode? How do you feel about Alex returning? I’m really looking forward to her episodes and what they do with her character, since everyone seems keen to point out she’s not on her game like she used to be. Share your TwoCents with me in the comments and I’ll see you next week!

  2. I LOVED this episode!! Alex is back!!! EEEEE!!! Almost as good as if they could bring back Casey, but I'll take whatever I can get to loose that new girl. Nothing against the actress, I just didn't like the way they wrote her character. It's going to take Alex a while to get back in the swing ~ she's been gone for a few years & had a LOT to deal with. (Weren't Fin & Munch still supposed to be in the dark about her being alive?)

The twist at the end was gut-wrenching. To know that you could have done something years ago & your child wouldn't be so damaged ... and that you gave them the toy that caused this. Yeouch.

Huang got knocked out! Didn't he say once before that he stopped working with/interviewing death row inmates because he got attacked once? ... or was that on Oz? I may be confused - he & Christopher Maloni were both on that one years ago.

All in all ~ great episode!

  3. Only watching again for Stephanie March. I hate to sound like that but it's I stopped watching when she left. Glad to see her back!

  4. Bella, I miss Casey too. I wish Alex AND Casey could both come back but I'm perfectly happy with Alex. :] They made Kim Graylek too in your face and pushy and her character in't sitting right with me either.

The twist about the toy was intense. That's something that would be terribly difficult to try to forgive yourself for, even though you couldn't have known. The bit about Huang - It sounds familiar but I agree, BD Wong could have said that on Oz. Everytime I see Chris Meloni's tattoo on SVU, I think of Oz.

The alleged addict - Glad you're back watching, even if just for Stephanie. There were a lot of good episodes during the Casey years though! ;]
