Tonight’s “Dancing with the Stars” elimination tried something different: the bottom two stars would dance off at the end in hopes of improving their previous score and perhaps saving them from elimination. But first, the audience was treated to performances from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Jewel that were accompanied by dances from both the professionals in the competition and various other famous dancers.

The top couples and the couples in the middle were saved: Lawrence Taylor, Shawn Johnson, Chuck Wicks, David Alan Grier, Denise Richards, Melissa Rycroft, Lil Kim, Gilles Marini, Holly Madison, Ty Murray, and Steve-O, leaving us with Belinda Carlisle and Steve Wozniak in the dance-off.

Belinda and the salsa squared off once again, but Belinda actually ended up doing worse than she did last night, getting a combined 17 (she got 18 last night.) Her hip action was better, but her footwork suffered. Next up, Steve Wozniak took on the quickstep for a second night in a row, and the judges agreed that he seemed to improve tonight, giving him a score of 17, the same score he got last night.

Belinda and Steve danced with their hearts on their sleeves and did their best. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save one of them. Belinda Carlisle became the first casualty of the new season.

What did you think of the inclusion of a dance off in the elimination? Was Belinda’s elimination deserved?
