In the spirit of honesty, I have a confession to make: I am head-over- heels mad in love with Nathan Fillion. Have been for years. You know that list Ross had on Friends… the one he laminated? Well, there are only two people on my List, and Nathan Fillion is Numero Uno (the second, if you care, is Helo from Battlestar Galactica, but that’s a whole other post). That said, I was more than happy to take on the reviewing job of Castle, ABCs new quirky drama starring my boy, even if it had echoes of Murder She Wrote (because, really, what would have made Murder She Wrote better? A hot guy, that’s what!). Let’s see if the show is more Ariel than Cabot Cove.

  1. In the spirit of honesty, I have a confession to make: I am head-over-heels mad in love with Nathan Fillion. Have been for years. TwoCents TwoMinute Recap
Richard “Rick” Castle [Nathan Fillion] is a total rock star… of the literary world. A spoiled multi-millionare, he just killed off one of his most lucrative main characters (Storm) and is suffering the consequences in the form of a nasty case of writer’s block.

Enter Detective Kate Beckett [Stana Katic] of the NYPD, who is trying to catch a copy-cat killer staging murders based on scenes from Castle’s novels. From the start, Castle and Beckett don’t get along. He is cocky and arrogant (and, boy, is he a flirt!), while she is cold and conservative.

When the copy-cat killer is arrested 30 minutes into the hour-long show, we all know there is a twist that only Castle himself can solve (well, with a little help from his weekly poker buddies, real-life authors James Patterson and Stephen J. Cannell). In the end, Castle and Beckett catch the REAL killer and part ways. Or so we thought…

Castle has had a break-through in that pesky writer’s block: he begins to fashion a new series around a tough, smart, female detective. A writer has to do research, right? He has his friend, the Mayor, pull some strings, and Beckett finds herself with a new (and oh-so-annoying) partner.

    TwoCents TwoFavorite Moments
    1. Castle’s bumbling capture of Harrison in the alley: “Tell me you saw that!”
    2. Castle’s relationship with his teenage daughter Alexis [Molly C. Quinn]… she is more adult than he. It’s very Edina and Saffron from Absolutely Fabulous.

    TwoCents TwoFavorite Quotes
    1. “That makes about a much sense as “Mousetrap.” I did that play eight times a week for a year… I still have no idea what it’s about.” -Castle’s washed-up Broadway actress mother [Susan Sullivan] when he tries to explain his theories on the copy-cat case to her.
    2. When Castle tells Beckett how amazing it would be if they hooked up, she leans forward and whispers “You have NO idea” before walking away. Yeah!

What do YOU think? Do you like the premise? Will you stick around? Am I the only Fillion Stalker out there? Give us your Two Cents… We’ll see if we can’t buy a book by Rick Castle.
