I had the chance to ask speak with American Idol’s newest Top 12 finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen today, a mere 12 hours after Thursday’s results show.

While they were obviously still overwhelmed by reaching safety of the silver stools, they answered my questions with poise and — amazingly — honesty.

    ADAM LAMBERT

PMB: You have gotten so much exposure on the internet already, especially since you have a strong YouTube presence. Do you think that will help you?

AL: Any exposure is good exposure. I’m aware that I have a lot of YouTube presence and of course that’s helpful.

PMB: Do you read what’s being said about you on the internet and does that help you know what people want?

AL: I read a little here and there, but I try not to dwell on it too much. It does help. I don’t take it too seriously. But yeah, it’s like market research. It helps you know what fans think.

    KRIS ALLEN

PMB: You’ve talked about how difficult it is performing without a guitar. How did you prepare to sing without one?

KA: I picked a song [“Man in the Mirror”] with energy to it and that didn’t need a guitar. I could dance around and get into it. I did a lot of practice in a room and made sure my dancing didn’t make me look like an idiot.

PMB: Is it because you’re a church worship leader that you feel so connected to your guitar?

KA: I’ve been playing the guitar and writing music since I was 13 years old. That’s always been me — the guy who sits and plays the guitar. So it was tough [singing without it].

Check back Tuesday for complete interviews with Adam, and Kris, as well as the third new finalist, Allison Iraheta.
