Tonight, Ritchie gets hurt at skateboarding party. Oh no! Don’t worry, he’s fine. That is, until Christine and Richard start trying to prove who’s the worse parent. They get into it, Christine goes totally overboard, and . . . well, let’s just say the episode title fits.

Richard’s taking Ritchie to a skateboarding party. He’s surprised Christine allowed this- until he sees his son in so much padding he can hardly move. At Richard carries Ritchie away, Matthew comes in and says he has a date. Christine comments on how fast it is. It doesn’t help Matthew’s case that his date is a lunch lady. Christine and Barb watch him and Andrea from the window. Barb’s pretty sure Matthew’s still not over Lucy, and she and Christine both tell him so. Matthew doesn’t agree at all which means, for once, they’re totally right. And then Ritchie comes in with a skinned elbow. He’s thrilled about it, but Christine yells at Richard. It escalates to a battle of the sexes and Richard being forbidden to do anything remotely dangerous with Ritchie ever again.
Christine complains about Richard to Barb, and tries to keep Ritchie from riding his bike to a friend’s house. Finally, she lets him, but follows behind him in her car. All is well and good at three miles an hour until she starts shaking her fist at a tailgater and runs Ritchie over. Well, bumps into him. At below walking speed. But she still becomes completely hysterical. She calms down with pills from the hospital after knowing Ritchie is fine. When Richard arrives, she tries to pin blame first on a cartoon and then on Barb. When she admits the truth, Richard is none too pleased.
Meanwhile, Matthew has, for no apparent reason, taken Andrea to a hotel. But he can’t stop talking about Lucy and she’s obsessed with daytime shows. Back home, Christine can’t stop berating herself for what happened to Ritchie, so Barb offers her moral support, in the form of her spilling to Christine how Richard once lost Ritchie at a fair. This moral support blooms into the revelation of Ritchie being taken everywhere from Hooters to Neverland Ranch. Matthew and Andrea arrive home and promptly break up, which should be a relief for both of them. But Christine and Richard both hate themselves now. Still, Ritchie’s turned out okay, and so slowly they realize they don’t totally suck as parents. But then Matthew walks in, asks where Ritchie is, and Richard realizes he forgot him at school. So nobody’s counting. Except Christine, who decides she’s the better parent after all.
What Old Christine Taught Me This Week:
1. A skinned elbow can be fairly gruesome
2. Watch the road
3. Wheel of Fortune is “Wheel”, not “The Wheel”
4. Christine and Richard are pretty good parents
5. Except for the times when they totally suck.
