Remember that episode last season where Matthew’s therapist told him he had an “overly intimate” relationship with Christine and convinced him to move out? Remember how Christine freaked out and tracked him down? Yes, well this week, he moves out again. So does Barb. And Richie’s gone, too. Think it’ll end better this time? Me either.

Me either.

Barb, Matthew, and Lucy are outside, debating how to tell Christine Barb’s leaving and Matthew’s moving in with Lucy. They figure she’ll be okay with Ritchie around, but he’s heading off to science camp. Finally, they tell her. It doesn’t go well. They’re still around the next day- because she stole their car keys. She says she’ll be fine, though somehow this seems hard to believe. They worry a little about leaving her all alone in a big, empty house. But not too much.

Matthew heads over to Lucy’s, ready to start a new life. But soon she’s throwing his shoes out, complaining about his luggage, and making out with her dog, Mr. Deeds. They’re doomed but won’t acknowledge it. Back at her house, Christine fears a burglar who turns out to be Richard. Once, she tells him, she was strong and independent. Now she’s fearing earwigs and locking herself out of her own home. So she tries to get in through a window in her bathroom, and winds up falling to the floor with her foot caught in the toilet. Ow, ow, ow. And then an earwig falls in her mouth. Ew, ew ew. There she sits, and waits to die.

But she does not die, because the show would kind of be pointless if she did. There’s a great Christine-as-Elaine scene where she again remembers how things used to be. Back at Lucy’s, Matthew arrives “late” to anger from his girlfriend and her dog. They try to believe they’re not doomed again. And then Richard and Barb come in to check on Christine. They find her and make fun of her. A lot. She kicks them out, determined to solve her problem herself. She finally does, and limps away, her head held high. Meanwhile, Matthew and Lucy finally realize they’re not going to make it. After a last ditch effort to save their relationship, they break up. Later, Matthew wonders whether he’ll ever end up with anyone. Christine would like him to stay with her forever but does actually (gasp!) comfort him. And doesn’t let go of his hand.

So, Matthew and Lucy are over. Richard and New Christine are still getting married, but he lied about getting a vasectomy and she kissed another man. Thoughts? Predictions? Discuss the episode in comments!

What Old Christine Taught Me This Week:
    1. Christine is loud when she’s upset
    2. Don’t try to sneak in through the bathroom window
    3. Dogs with first names will end relationships
    4. Old lady jokes about Christine are funny
    5. Everyone on this show is going to die alone
