Another week another episode. We still don’t know the specifics on what’s going on, but it is getting interesting to say the least. The episode starts right where we left off, just as the plane is going down. And it looks like none of our theories were right – Peter isn’t absorbing powers. He can pick them up one at a time, but when he gains a power he loses one. Here are five other things you need to know about the episode.

Number one: Sylar escaped from Nathan’s hit men in turn is holding Mary and Luke Campbell hostage. He still has hit man Simmons in his custody and once inside the Campbell residence, uses screwdrivers through the hands to keep the man in place. He leers that he isn’t going to torture Simmons in front of the woman and her child. He’s going to torture the woman and her child in front of Simmons for information. As Luke tries to defend his mother, he reveals that he has an ability too; he’s like a human microwave. Sylar of course takes interest in that and as he quizzes Luke, Simmons goes for a gun after wrenching one of his hands free. Luke intervenes and kills Simmons, his mother screaming all the while. Luke knows where Sylar’s father is and they team up. “I let you live. Which is kind of a big deal for me,” says Sylar. He relates to the boy who was living in a single parent household after his father ran off. I think we have our Sylar sidekick in the works.

Number two: Hiro still isn’t off of his ‘I have a destiny’ kick. After escaping from the plane wreckage he, Mohinder, and Matt all go on the run. Hiro says that it’s his destiny as a hero to rescue others and for once, Mohinder comes through with the sound advice. Rather than listen to him though, Hiro believes that it’s up to the three of them to help save the other heroes. Matt paints some future scenes before Daphne and Ando speed in. She went to Tokyo to find Ando and they realize both Hiro and Matt have been kidnapped by the same people. When they make it together to the crash site, chaos rules after Daphne tries to rescue Claire. (More on that later.) Nathan’s men start firing and kill Daphne (as far as we know) while Mohinder, Matt, Hiro and Ando make a clean getaway.

Number three: After being taken into custody, Claire confronts both Nathan and Noah, refusing to believe that she’s supposed to go back to her life and pretend like nothing is happening. Nathan explains that he can only give so many free passes. After Daphne is killed, Claire is taken back into custody where it’s made clear that she’s made no friends among the hit men. After being carted back to Costa Verde, she tells her mother that her trip scouting colleges was rough, then gets a text from an anonymous source telling her to be ready. She can still be in the fight.

Number four: Nathan has been telling the events of the crash over the phone to his mother. She chides him, saying that she knows why he called; he either wants assurance or absolution and she can give him neither. She has an open file on the hit man in charge (his name escapes me; please fill me in!) and simply tells Nathan to handle the situation before it gets out of control. If you ask me, Mama Petrelli isn’t doing anyone any favors.

Number five: Peter and Tracy go on the run after the crash and take down two hit men. She steals a cell phone and calls Nathan, telling him that she’ll give up Peter if he promises to let her go back to her regular life. They agree to meet at a rendezvous point and Tracy goes to talk to Nathan while Peter hides. The deal goes sour when it becomes obvious that Nathan didn’t come alone. Hit men and Noah are trained on Tracy and Peter, ready to take them down when Peter holds Nathan at gunpoint. Without hesitation, he then flies off into the night sky, and Tracy is taken back into custody. Nathan secretly thanks Noah for not shooting Peter. Peter, Matt, Mohinder, Ando, and Hiro all converge to come up with a plan. They can’t go back to their lives; this is all about survival now.

I was plenty entertained during the episode; I like high action and I have to say: I love evil Sylar with his own agenda. It serves for a better story. But please, writers, stop making Hiro sound like a broken record. Enough with him thinking he has a secret destiny; isn’t the want to survive enough for him? I know that I was all for weeding out the cast, but as soon as one hero goes down (Daphne, RIP) another one pops up to take its place (Luke). I have to admit though; I’m a little intrigued to see where the Sylar story line is going. Anyone out there think we’ve already met his father? Shoot me an email with your theories, or leave your Two Cents in the comments!

  2. Amen on the Hiro/Destiny thing. Enough already! Just do it, OK!?

And I am totally fine with the death of Daphne... she was starting to get on my nerves.

  3. Of all the new characters, I liked Daphne the best. I didn't like that they killed her off (although, on this show, that may not be permanent). But Matt didn't show a lot of mourning, did he? We need that kind of emotional depth to keep this from being too high concept.I do like Dan Byrd as Sylar's new sidekick -- that has real potential..
