ReplyDeleteI about went into shock when David Osmond’s name hit the cut list. Why? He could have biffed a melody or forgotten lyrics (and unforgivable sin during Hollywood Week), or perhaps the judges didn’t like him. We may never know because the producers didn’t show us a note that he sang.
So RIP Deanna Brown, Austin Sisneros, Emily Wynne-Hughes, Rose Flack and many others. And good riddance to Bikini Girl, Katrina Darnell, who just didn’t try hard enough and sabotaged the rest of her group except for the wonderful Jasmine Murray.
But there were some smoking performances. Once again, Danny Gokey came out on top (of those shown). Along with his best friend Jamar Rogers and Taylor Vaifanua (and another female singer they didn’t identify), Gokey’s group made a tune sung accapella sound ready to record with stunning harmonies.
Team Chocolate (India Morrison, Matt Giraud, Kris Allen, Justin Williams) sang the heck out of "I Want You Back," adding a hip hop element that proved they could really go far as artists. Singing “Some Kind of Wonderful” with amazing power in various groups were Jeremy Michael Sarver, Adam Lambert (now my second fave after Gokey), Matt Breitzke and the smoking Jesse Langseth, who is new to the camera.
Along the lines of “I never heard him sing,” why is Norman Gentle still in the competition? I’d have liked to see if he could sing without clowning. Perhaps the fact that his singing didn’t air means that the producers didn’t want to show a serious side to him? Not a way to make viewers invested.
Contestants who got through and weren’t shown included Megan Corkrey, Michael Castro, Joanna Pacitti (former A&M recording artist), Anne Marie Boskovich (the girl they demanded get a makeover) and Scott McIntyre. Maybe we’ll see them sing when the show’s focus isn’t on the obnoxious Tatiana Del Toro playing mega-diva or Nathaniel Marshall having a complete breakdown in the wake of his group’s conflict.
Of those we saw, so many seemed to set themselves up for failure. Perhaps the pressure proved too much and they couldn’t handle it. If they couldn’t handle Hollywood Week, then they wouldn’t be able to handle the rest of the competition, where the pressure and stakes keep getting higher (along with the lack of sleep).
Who would you like to see move to the next round? Who do you want to see kicked off? Do you like all the drama or wish they had cut it? Either way, I can’t wait to see the next episode and who makes it to the top 36. Last night, we went from 107 to 75 contestants. So more than half still have to go….
