Dubaku’s goons are bringing the First Gentleman into a safe house. Meanwhile Dubaku himself is watching President Taylor on a television address recapping the failure of the terror plot along with her announcing the impending move by the US to liberate Sangala. The clock is ticking.

    3:05

Matobo, Renee, Jack and Bill Buchanan are brought in to see President Taylor right after her television address. The President issues grief to Matobo in the fact that he was kidnapped on US soil. After he leaves, Jack and Bill explain the situation to her about possible traitors in her administration. She is reluctant to believe this at first until Renee tells her that they are telling the truth. Right then, the President gets the phone call from Dubaku that he kidnapped Henry. He tells her that if she doesn’t publicly withdraw her troops from Sangala by 4:00 (that’s the end of this episode!) then he will be killed. He also demands that Motabo be returned to him. He cuts off Henry’s finger to prove that he means business. The President tells Ethan that she will not give in to Dubaku’s demand even in this case. Jack steps in and tells her that he can try to find Henry before the deadline. She asks why she should trust him, and Jack replies “With all due respect, ask around”. She agrees by simply telling Jack “Find him”. Renee calls Larry to tell him she’s alive and that they need his help.

    3:23

Renee and Jack meet up with Larry for help. Larry tells them that Gedge made several calls to Agent Vosler (the agent that captured Henry), which leads them to believe that he is involved. Jack tells Renee to go to Agent Vosler’s house while he and Larry look to call him. Jack’s plan has them threatening to hurt his family unless he gives up where Henry is. Renee finally agrees to the plan, but Larry tells Jack he’ll never allow Renee to end up like him.

    3:28

Ethan and Bill come up with the plan to use a decoy to act as Motabo to send to Dubaku to look like they’re accepting his terms. Larry tells Jack where Vosler is and Jack plans a point to intercept him. Renee makes it to the Voslers home and shows Mrs. Vosler her gun and tells her to cooperate.

    3:35

Renee has Mrs. Vosler at gunpoint and handcuffs her to the coffee table. Meanwhile, Jack meets up with Vosler by smashing into his car with Larry’s SUV. He pulls him in an alleyway and demands to know where Henry is being held. After the customary denial, Jack puts Renee on the phone with his family. Renee is obviously in pain with the idea of what she’s doing. But this does make Vosler give up the information. In a quick motion, Vosler disarms Jack and pulls a knife on him. They fight and Jack turns the knife on Vosler and puts it in his belly. He limps away and steals a car to go to the address that Vosler gave him.

    3:45

While Bill is getting the decoy ready to send to Dubaku, Jack tells Renee where Henry is being held. After he tells Renee that Vosler was killed, Renee almost breaks down since she’s standing next to his newly widowed wife. Jack tells her that without her they wouldn’t have accomplished what they did if it weren’t for her efforts. He offered that she can step down now, and she says that she may do that… tomorrow. She asks Larry to cover up the death of Vosler so Dubaku doesn’t find out what’s happening. Back at the hideout, Dubaku receives a phone call from his girlfriend Marika’s sister Rosa. She tells him that she checked with immigration and nobody with his (phony) name has gotten into the US. She tells him that she will not share this information with Marika if he agrees to break up with her and move on. After he hangs up, he tells one of his men that he has to go somewhere.

    3:54

The decoy arrives at the pickup point and Jack hasn’t arrived at the hideout yet. The gunmen order that “Motabo” be given to them but they delay per Bill’s order. The gunman calls Dubaku and he realizes that he’s being played. He orders that the car is to be destroyed. President Taylor orders the retreat of the men, but as they are an RPG hits them. Jack and Renee enter the basement where Henry is held and a gunfight ensues right as Dubaku orders the First Gentleman to be killed. Jack and Renee take them all out, but with a last shot one of them hit Henry in the chest! Yeah, that’s a pretty good cliffhanger to me..

Ok, so we are now officially through the first quarter of the new season. And in my mind I love it so far. This episode is vintage 24 with the suspense and action intertwined with the suspicious behavior. One of the things that I’m liking about this season is there are a lot of smaller scenarios happening and being resolved, not just one prolonged scenario like other seasons past. Of course, I equally love that concept but I’m enjoying the way that they’re doing it this season. This episode is also continually challenging the torture issue and what is right and wrong about it. Being familiar with the characters almost make you feel more when a loved one is taken, and how would you react in that same situation. This may be my favorite episode of the young season so far. What is your favorite episode? And what do you think of this season so far? I’ll thank you to put your two cents in the field below. Of course, you already have mine.
