This week on Old Christine, Christine’s boyfriend, Patrick, turns out to be less than perfect. In fact, he turns out to be totally insane. But what with our heroine’s previous experience with men, we probably should have seen this coming.

The episode opens with Christine and Patrick meeting to play tennis. They’re sweet and silly, and make the Meanie Moms jealous. Needless to say, this won’t last. Christine wins at tennis and gloats happily. And then Patrick goes nuts, hitting himself on the hand with his racket before going completely off the deep end. Matthew’s date with his girlfriend, Lucy, is going considerably better, and New Christine and Richard comment on how loving they are together. Christine comes in and says she’ll have to break up with Patrick. Everyone else thinks she might be to blame, but Christine has none of it. Richard also tells Matthew that Lucy totally looks like Christine. I’ve actually heard people say this before.

Richard’s comments have gotten to Matthew, and he’s very awkward around Lucy. She tries to calm down in her own equally awkward style. Later, the whole cast minus Ritchie gathers in Christine’s living room for a game night. Christine wants to test Patrick’s insanity. This is where we use the phrase “What could possibly go wrong?” Christine puts herself and Matthew on a team with Patrick and tells Matthew they have to lose. So they make obvious attempts to do so. And yet thanks to completely contrived luck on their part and stupidity from New Christine and Richard in trying to guess Barb’s clue, the plan fails. So Christine rearranges the teams. This, of course, completely backfires as well. When everyone loves Patrick, Christine begins to doubt her concerns. Until, that is, Patrick gets in an argument with Richard about the wine they were drinking, is mistaken, and shoves the bottle through the wall.

Christine brings Richard with her to her break-up with Patrick. She’s afraid she might need protection, though Richard might not be the best man for the job. But it turns out Patrick is exceptionally calm about the whole thing. Christine is very confused. The next morning, she talks to Matthew, and then admires herself in the mirror…which turns out not to be a mirror, but Lucy through a window. Matthew is horrified. Then, though, Lucy tells them she doesn’t drink, which means she and Christine are nothing alike and their relationship is not an indicator of deep psychological issues. Though the fact the Meanie Moms later think that Matthew is making out with his sister might contradict that.

So, are you going to miss Patrick? Do you think Lucy looks that much like Christine? As usual, talk about what you thought of the episode in the comments section!

What Old Christine Taught Me This Week:
    1. Matthew and Lucy are probably doomed
    2. Christine and Patrick were always doomed
    3. Christine could make some personality improvements. Not being intolerable, for instance.
    4. Christine is pretty bad at whispering
    5. New Christine and Richard, though, totally suck at charades.
