As America emerges from arguably the most influential election in its history, both those who are celebrating and mourning can enjoy an attack ad-free episode of Old Christine. Tonight, Christine and her new beau, Patrick, go on a date with Richard. No, not a double date, just them and him. What could go wrong?
Christine and Patrick enter her house and she gives him a tour- namely of the bedroom. They make sweet talk to each other until Richard arrives at the house and makes a very awkward appearance while being surprised Christine is actually in bed with a man. But Christine and Richard’s relationship is friendly on a somewhat unhealthy level, which makes Patrick uncomfortable. But after a while he loosens up. Christine is still overly friendly the next morning, this time with Matthew. She’s thrilled that Patrick approves of everything from her drawer nobody else can look in to Richard. They make witty banter, and Christine is very pleased with herself.
Matthew is making a fool of himself as a therapist when Barb comes by his office. She wants to know what was up with his last patient and what the job is like. Then she starts trying to talk to him. And tells him something we don’t hear but that is apparently disturbing. Back at the house, Richard asks Christine if can escape wedding craziness for a bit. She says that’s fine, but she’s off for a date. Richard loves the place she and Patrick are going to, so she invites him. She’s sure Patrick will be fine with it. On the date, we see she just might be wrong. And when she wants all three of them to return to the house for wine, Patrick gets upset and leaves.
Later, Christine is moping on the couch. Richard and a sympathetic New Christine come in. But New Christine is less sympathetic when she hears of the circumstances. She thinks Christine may have intimacy issues, which Christine denies. And then Matthew enters, still shaken by whatever he found out. He knows he can’t tell them, so he’s persuaded to act it out. At which point, of course Barb walks in. New Christine tells them all to stop being stupid. So Christine goes on another date with Patrick and confesses she has fears. Which make him afraid, too, so he wants to break up with her. Matthew apologizes to Barb, who confesses the story she told him wasn’t true. And then starts telling him another one. At the end of the episode, after some confusion over whether they have a relationship or not, Christine and Patrick decide to be together. And all is right in the world.
What do you think of Patrick, therapist Matthew, and everything else? Also, on a more serious note, do you think the show will address the passing of Prop 8? If so, how? Discuss in comments!
