That being said I was disappointed by the case this week. After the compelling episode four weeks ago, I guess my expectations were too high. Jeffrey Thorne was a depressed artist who was found dead in one of his crushed-car sculptures. The suspects include art gallery owner, Helen, his apparent rival, Anton, and his assistant, Roxie.
Roxie is the sole benefactor of Jeffrey’s will, the prime suspect, and Angela’s ex. It is here where the hear t of the episode lies. Upon revealing Angela’s relationship the writers took us through several scenes that stayed with me long after the screen went dark. The scenes include, Angela and Brennan discussing how she should handle her feeling, Angela and Booth discussing his feelings about her past, and Sweets pointing out Angela’s habit of abandoning her relationships when things get serious. Aside from that, the case was run of the mill and incredibly obvious. The gallery owner, Helen killed him so his art would go up in price and she could make the money necessary to treat her cancer.
Daisy returned in this episode and I was actually glad to see her, if only to stem the unending tide of brand new Zack replacements. She was in usual form, irritating the hell outta Cam and the team. The best part of the episode came when Daisy removed the skull from the sculpture and it shattered into a million pieces. I swear my heart leaped into my throat in shock, then I dissolved into laughter at the expressions on everyone’s face.
THE GOOD: There were a lot of Sweets/Angela scenes and I loved each one. Angela is an unapologetic free thinker and I love the way she just yelled out “to sex!” in the bar. The various interaction of the main characters - this cast has an abundance of chemistry and mixing up the teams is always a good thing. The ending was absolutely beautiful - the entire team betting on how Sweets would fire Daisy. The look on their faces when Sweets revealed their relationship and kissed her was priceless!
THE BAD: I don’t need to reiterate how obvious and uninteresting the case was, thankfully the fantastic character development made up for it.
BEST EXCHANGE OF THE EVENING
Booth: They will never work, they’re like complete opposites.
Brennan: Oh, I agree - for all her faults, she is a woman of science. Sweets bases his life on Psychology and emotion. There is no common ground.
Booth: Right
Brennan: You need common ground, I mean, what else is there?
Booth: Absolutely.
*cue the significant glances full of meaning*
Well that about wraps it up for now. What did you guys think? Did you buy Angela and Roxies relationship? Did the case bore you? How excited is everyone to meet Booths younger brother next week? Until then, leave me your two cents below.
