Maybe Howard and Leonard should've settled their argument about a girl with a game of rock-paper-scissors-lizard Spock. Instead Leonard sneaks behind Howard's back to date Stephanie, a doctor Howard picked up while wearing an eye patch, and a cold war begins. But thankfully, it doesn't last long.
Leonard breaks code by making out with Stephanie (Sara Rue) after Howard sends her home with him while he gets the Mars Rover out of a ditch. While Leonard's getting lucky, the boys aren't, and they are forced to erase all of the data from the Mars Rover control room to cover their tracks. Unfortunately, they seem to have also erased the first signs of Martian life. Oops.
But back to the important issues. Leonard and Stephanie continue to grope each other over at her apartment while being constantly interrupted by Howard's – yes, “it's Howard” - messages on her machine because he still thinks he's dating her. When he finds out what's going on, he proclaims Leonard dead to him and refuses to acknowledge anything he says, with Sheldon acting as intermediary. Luckily, Stephanie comes by and offers a vulnerable single friend to Howard as a consolation prize, so all is forgiven.
I like that they've put Penny into a comfortable friend position in the group, and particularly with Leonard. I never enjoyed the pairing, and I think she works better as just a general foil to the guys' way of thinking. Just my opinion, I know there are plenty of Leonard/Penny shippers out there. I still don't know what I think of Stephanie, but it looks like we'll get to know her better next week.

Sheldon: How is Deep Space Nine better than Saturn 3?
Raj: Simple subtraction would tell you it's 6 better.
Leonard: Compromise – watch Babylon 5.
Sheldon: It's very simple. Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors.
Howard: Something's come up, kind of a “Mars Rover, Mars Rover, can Howard come over” situation.
Raj: You could try calling AAA. But based on NASA's latest timetable, they won't get there for another 35 years.
Sheldon: Plus I understand you have to be standing next to the vehicle with your card when they arrive.
Stephanie: How was your day?
Leonard: Well, I'm a physicist, so I thought about stuff.
Stephanie: That's it?
Leonard: Well... I wrote some of it down.
Loved this episode. I agree, I think Penny works really well as a friend/foil.
ReplyDeleteI love Sheldon in a sarcastic/snarky supporting role, like he was in this one. He's great in small doses, but too much of him grates. This was absolutely perfect. He got some great lines.
I kinda like Stephanie, and it's good to see Leonard having some fun.
I know what you mean about Sheldon. I love him, but I don't like when they make him TOO much of a jerk to the point where you can't imagine why anyone is still friends with him at all.
