Four episodes left, and the luck keeps shifting between Vic and Shane, as a major wedge is driven between the two camps. This is the show that set the tone for the FX lineup, and the intensity is still building. The 13 episode season is looking very ironic.
With Shane and his family on the run, Vic and Ronnie check his home for clues as to where he might be hiding. In the refrigerator, they fins a prescription for whooping cough medication that Mara had forgot to pack. They plan to watch both emergency rooms and pharmacies, waiting for the family to show up. When Mackey hits the first pharmacy, he finds it difficult to get cooperation without his badge. He passes the medication to Ronnie to see if his luck is any better. The two discuss what to do if they find the family. Shane is predetermined, but Vic also recommends taking out Mara, since she knows too much. Jackson should not be harmed.
Shane swaps out his Lexus for an untraceable car. As Jackson’s cough gets worse, Shane almost gets into a fight with a neighbor at the motel who is looking for peace and quiet. By this time, Vic has gotten a break on the prescription refill, and he tracks Shane to the room, just after they have left for the ER. At the hospital, Vic notices Shane’s car and waits for him in the garage. The doctor wants to admit Jackson, but Shane talks him out of it, leaving with the stronger medication. As Vic is about to make his move, a cop car pulls up, and Shane tells the cops that Vic has a gun. He is detained, and Shane and his family escape. He gives Mara the opportunity to turn herself in, but she is determined to keep the entire family together.
Dutch reconnects with Rita (Frances Fisher), the mother of potential serial killer Lloyd. Rejecting her advances, he gets her to open up about a previous incident with a teacher Lloyd had in another town. When she comes to the Barn to confront Dutch about using her, he presents the facts of the previous case and urges her to bring Lloyd back in, as she weighs whether the mother/son bond transcends what Lloyd might have done.
Billings is approached by his ex-wife to scare away a sex offender who has moved into their neighborhood. They meet with the man, who has been without incident for six years. Billings tries to blackmail Dutch into helping him persuade the man to leave, using his relationship with Rita. He refuses, but a stash of child pornography is conveniently discovered in the man’s bedroom, violating his parole. The rift between Dutch and Billings widens further.
Claudette makes the decision to permanently dismantle the Strike Team. Julien is returned to uniform duty, while Ronnie awaits reassignment after his probation is finished. After Vic is picked up, she confronts Ronnie. He tells her that Shane killed Lem, but lies about the motive, painting Shane as under the influence of the Armenians. Claudette is, of course, skeptical.
Pezuela meets with Aceveda about his campaign, and begins to appoint staff members. The first is identified by Justice as Guillermo Beltran, who is on several watch lists by the Defense department. Olivia sees him as the man Pezuela is trying to impress. Aceveda worries about the effect on his campaign, and bargains with Olivia to bring them in just before the election, so that he can claim partial credit.
Early in the episode, Mara calls Corinne to find out what the police have been doing to find them. Vic listens on a second phone and gets Corinne to ask for a radius of where they are. When she asks, Shane takes the phone from Mara, and Vic takes the phone from Corinne. Shane warns Vic off all future calls. When she calls back after the attempted hit, she accuses Corinne of being a liar. She lets her know that Vic tried to kill them, and she is an accessory to attempted murder. Corinne lies to Vic and says they won’t be calling anymore.
So there’s my two cents…What do you think? Drop them in the comments or drop me a line at: tom@thetwocents.com .
Every time I watch an episode of this brilliant show I look online to read some reviews and see what other people thought. A couple of times I've come here and I have to say, how can you call this "My two cents"?!? I could be missing something here, but what you do is not a review, but merely a recap. Telling us word for word what happened is not giving your "two cents", it's just telling us what we could have gathered from watching the episode ourselves. I'm not sure I see the point to what you're doing and I won't be checking back here again any time soon that's for sure...
