Tonight, Christine dates Jeffery Tambor! Okay, technically it’s Jeffery Tambor playing a reptile expert, and Christine’s dating him because she has to get Ritchie into the club he runs. Still, I’m hoping awesome guest stars will become a trend for this show.

Tonight, Christine dates Jeffery Tambor! Okay, technically it’s Jeffery Tambor playing a reptile expert, and Christine’s dating him because she has to get Ritchie into the club he runs. Still, I’m hoping awesome guest stars will become a trend for this show.
Jeffery Tambor, here known as “Neil”, is at a birthday party Ritchie is attending. Barb is there and Christine runs in, late as usual. There are a lot of innuendos with reptiles named after female celebrities, and Christine promises Ritchie that she will sign him up for the “Reptile Adventure Club”, ensuring she’ll totally forget. Later, while having to go to the gym again to fill in for a hiccupping Barb, she laments to Richard the time she has to spend away from their son.
Matthew comes home from a date with Lucy. Because he’s not her therapist anymore, there shouldn’t be any trouble until they sleep together. So, of course, they immediately do, he tells her he likes her, and she runs for the door. They’re off to a great start. Christine, meanwhile, drags herself into bed, but abruptly jumps up. Sure enough, she forgot about Ritchie’s club. She runs to Matthew and finds him distraught over Lucy, which she ignores completely and panics. Finally, she decides to just ask Neil to let Ritchie in. But he won’t unless she’ll go on a date with him. For someone who she finds unappealing, he’s very manipulative, and she agrees. Richard finds this off-putting, but Christine tells him not to worry- she’s bringing Barb for protection.
Back at home, Richard tells Matthew to leave Lucy wondering how he feels about her. How his and Christine’s marriage failed is beyond me. While Christine and Barb arrive at her date, Matthew puts this advice into action when Lucy returns to get her coat. Remarkably, it does not work out. Nor does Christine’s date, especially when Neil breaks his promise to let Ritchie in the club and Barb ignores cues to rescue her. Of course, it can’t just end there. So, later, Richard brings home a snake for Ritchie- in a cardboard box, nonetheless- and then drops it, forcing him, Christine, and Matthew onto the couch. Lucy arrives in the middle of this and says she ran because she likes Matthew, too, and didn’t want to ruin things. On that sweet note, Neil comes to the rescue. And Christie, kind, desperate, or both, goes on another miserable date with him.
What did you think of this episode? Any predictions for how Matthew and Lucy’s relationship will go? And who else would you like to see guest starring? Discuss in comments!
What Old Christine Taught Me This Week:
1. Naming animals things like “Vickie Lawrence” has unintended consequences
2. Christine is not a hawk. And Neil is not actually a lizard.
3. Barb, however, could pass for a mongoose.
4. Most dating advice should be avoided completely
5. Yes, New Christine is still a part of the show. She’s just never actually there.
