Tonight’s episode opened with an excited Randy announcing to Earl that it’s two days until his birthday, and asks to be called a ridiculous name in honor of the occasion. Earl refuses, but tells Randy that his real name is Randall. Poor Randy laments being stuck with a worse name than Earl, while Earl thinks back on all the times he took the better thing for himself, from presents to girls in neck braces. Because Randy always got second-best, Earl gets Randy a car for his birthday, called the “Ranchero.” It’s apparently better than Earl’s car, but I disagree.

While in the Crab Shack parking lot, Randy’s present is stolen, so Randy assumes he’s been given an empty parking space. Earl is shocked that he’s been robbed, because in Camden County, crooks don’t steal from other crooks. He goes inside to find Joy pouring vodka into an aquarium to catch the fish, and asks her who’s been stealing cars lately. Joy believes that she is indeed the right person to ask, because “45 minutes into CSI, I always know what happened.” She tells him that Clyde and Bedbug, two local criminals, have stolen the car. Earl goes and asks Clyde for the car back, but Clyde refuses since Earl’s no longer a crook and is therefore not subject to the crook code. His dog , Dubya, agrees. Since they can’t settle it, they take the argument to Mr. Wallace, Camden County’s most accomplished criminal and part-time crossing guard. He sides with Clyde since Earl’s no longer a thief. Earl buys the car back, only to have it stolen again. Joy responds to this by saying “oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we make stupid-ass lists,” meaning that the car never would have been stolen if Earl had never changed his ways. Exasperated, Earl says he’ll go to the cops for help, and Joy is shocked. “Fat people, cops, Al-Qaeda, stuff inside a zit, and snitches” are how she ranks humanity.

Earl goes to the cops, and an officer offers him a prize from the goodie drawer if he snitches. He doesn’t want to, but he does it for Randy, thinking no one will ever know. When he returns to the hotel, someone has painted “snitch” all over the walls. Earl finally decides he has to steal Clyde’s car to get the Ranchero back, so he gives Randy the “stealing bag” which to Randy’s delight, “still smells like crime.” Earl is unable to steal the car, so he steals Dubya the dog and gets caught. Back at the station, Earl looks inside the goodie drawer and realizes that everyone in town has some of the crappy prizes, and he realizes that if he snitches, he’ll create a domino effect and everyone will snitch on someone. He catches everyone coming from the station with their goodie prizes, and finally gets his car back, allowing Randy to have something better than him for the first time.

What did everyone think of the episode? I liked last week a lot better, because Randy got more screen time, but it could have been so much worse. I caught Kath and Kim afterward, and…yikes. I thought Joy was great tonight, and the concept was a good one, but it didn’t feel as fresh as this season’s episodes have so far. Leave us your TwoCents in the comments, and I’ll see you next week!

  2. My favorite part? Randy choosing his own crab out of the claw game crab tank. Awesome!
