  1. Stella’s sister is in a quandary and out thousands of dollars: Her granola-vegan-dread-lock infused wedding is off because her fiancé ran off with the vitamin girl. Ted and Stella (through no fault of Ted) decide to take over her wedding on Shelter Island and pay her back. So there you have it… Ted and Stella are getting married in a few days. Yikes.

The gang travels up to Shelter Island and discovers the horrors of a rustic wedding: no alcohol and no meat. This is especially disturbing to Barney who has devised a plan to get his true love (Robin, who has flown in from Japan) drunk in order to sleep with her one more time. Romantic, huh?

Speaking of Robin, Stella is furious that Ted has invited her to the wedding. Sure, they are friends, but an Ex at a wedding? A complete no-no in Stella’s book. In fact, Robin is only second on the do-not-invite list to Stella’s own Ex, Tony, father of her daughter.

To make matters worse, Tony has refused to let Lucy attend the wedding. Ted drives back to Manhattan to talk to him and perhaps get him to let Ted take Lucy to the wedding. He speaks of how important this day is to both Stella and Lucy to which Tony replies “I know! I wasn’t even invited!” As Tony literally cries on Ted’s shoulder, I scream a slow motion “Nooooooo!” at the TV. Ted didn’t hear me and went ahead and invited Tony to the wedding.

Meanwhile, as Stella’s sister continues to hit on Barney in a nighttime-telly sort of way. Lilly keeps reminding him that he is never going to make it ‘til Robin arrives. Barney plus a drunk, desperate bridesmaid spells you-know-what for Barney.

Ted arrives back at Shelter Island with both Lucy and Tony in tow. Stella is devastated and declares that both Tony and Robin must go. If only Ted had talked to Tony and Stella had talked to Robin, things might have turned out differently… flash forward to 2030 and Old Ted telling the story of how he met their mother to two blonde kids. That seals it: Stella is not The Mother.

Ted goes to Robin to break the new that her 24-hour flight was in vain. She shocks him by revealing that she still has lingering feelings for him. Besides, she feels that he is jumping into someone else’s wedding and acting like he is in someone else’s life. This marriage is a mistake and she thinks he should go back to his old life. In fact, that is what she is doing; she has quit her job in Japan and is moving back to NYC. Ted backs away… he is in love with Stella: she is The One.

Robin, heartbroken, turns to Barney who, just as Lilly predicted, has a girl tied to his bedpost. Another missed chance for the love-struck Barney. Robin gets on the ferry back to NYC and sees a surprising sight: Stella (wedding dress and all) making out with Tony. She has left Ted at the alter.

What do YOU think? Could you be vegan for the weekend? Will Barney ever smarten-up and get Robin? Will Ted blame Robin for everything? Will Marshall have more lines next episode? Give us your Two Cents… We’ll send it to Ted to help him pay for that awful wedding.

Next Week: rebroadcast of “Sandcastles in the Sand”

  2. FYI - Closing song is "Waiting For An Invitation" (Oh, how appropriate!) by Benji Hughes

  3. I loved that closing song ~ thanks for saying who did it!

I paused the Tivo long enough to tell Hubs that I *knew* Stella was more worried about her ex being there ... I hate to loose Sara Chalk, but introducing the Mother now would end the series ... oh well.

I don't think Ted can blame Robin, he was still left at the alter - although he may well take it out on her for a few weeks. I was wondering if she was saying there was still something between them just because SHE'S lonely & misses her old life. Dunno. Not a writer!

Barney ... he needs a sex intervention.

OH! I heard that Alyson Hanigan announced her pregnancy ~ maybe they are writing in a baby for Marshall/Lily.

  4. I hadn't heard she was pregnant! That would be so awesome! Oh, the Marshall freak-outs we could have! :)

  5. Oh Barney, what an idiot are you. ANd how sad to see Sarah Chalke (I assume) go. I loved her! Oh well, 2 loves down, neither of them "Your Mother!"
