Penny is having a bad day. She jammed her car key in her apartment door, got rejected at an audition, her groceries are all over the floor, she's sexually frustrated, and she swallowed a fly. Sheldon invites her in, begrudgingly, to wait for the locksmith while he returns to his MMORPG, Age of Conan. At first, Sheldon is quite encouraging of Penny's curiosity in the game and helps her get into it and level up. Unfortunately, since Penny's been crapped on lately and has nothing else to get excited about, she gets way - WAY - too into the game.

Soon, she's busting in on Sheldon in the middle of the night, calling his office, and pretty much completely invading the light-year of personal antisocial space that needs to surround Sheldon at all times. Leslie suggests that Penny needs a new man to make her stop sublimating her sexual urges through online gaming. After inadvertently, successfully, and hilariously hitting on a gay man for her ("Are you currently in a sexual relationship? Would you like to be?"), Sheldon not-so-surreptitiously gets Penny to answer some questions to make her a dating profile on HeadOverHeelz.com. (As an aside, Sheldon visiting a site with an erroneous 'z' in the title bugged me at first, but then I decided that he probably figures this is where the commoners are.) Penny manages to ruin the matchmaking effort (which she didn't know about) by coming over in Cheeto-stained sweats and a rat's nest for hair, ignoring the potential date while she complains to Sheldon about the noobs she's questing with.

What finally makes her see she needs help? At the very end, she realizes she has agreed to an in-game date with Howard.

While I always enjoy any Penny/Sheldon interaction on this show, this episode was absolutely priceless. Penny becoming an unwashed, stat-bashing gamer? Brilliant! And Leonard hearing the suggestive sounds coming from Sheldon's bedroom, where he is without pajama bottoms? Hilarious. I'll forgo this season's side complaint of how badly they're underutilizing Howard and Raj because I see that next week's episode is Raj-centric. Instead, I'll ask the writers to please get the supposedly intelligent and witty Leslie a new insult to toss.

Theresa is now AFK. Quotes to return next week.

  2. This was one episode I should have watched without my husband in the room ~ I was given a long list of reasons why AOC would never work on a laptop, the ways in which they were "telling" the game wrong and how many ways Penny would never have gotten that far ....

But Sheldon's explanation of why he had no pajama bottoms was priceless! I love seeing him & Penny play off of each other.

  4. Haha, I've played a few MMOs, but I couldn't even follow what they were talking about half the time. It is very true that you really shouldn't game on a normal laptop though :)

Oh yes, Sheldon is always great, but I loved the role reversal with Penny in this episode.

  5. This is the funniest and smartest thing that television has shown in decades. The irony used in the show is so brilliant and so well written between smart jokes and scientifically facts that the average American is curse never to get it (and probably hates the show) but this is an original, intelligent and fascinating series that watch The Big Bang Theory Online.I can't not wait to see every week. Let's just hope CBS does not compromise to keep the era of "The OC" and "Reality TV CRAP" let's them get this wonderful show of the air
