Summers over. Didn’t it just start? We ended episode one of the second season with Dan and Serena on the beach and guess what? We start with episode two with Dan and Serena on the beach. But, this time its different. How is it different you ask? At night they were clothed and in the morning they were not so much clothed. Um, isn’t that illegal? Serena wakes up confused about the night before not knowing where they stand. Serena exits the beach leaving Dan alone.

Summers over. Didn’t it just start? We ended episode one of the second season with Dan and Serena on the beach and guess what? We start with episode two with Dan and Serena on the beach. Blair and Lord Marcus are on a bike ride heading to breakfast. They talk about Lord Marcus’ “lordly” ways and how Blair is dying to meet the Queen (which isn’t quite right). They enter into a restaurant excited just to be with each other. To me, Leighton Meester is playing this whole “I like Marcus’ even for Blair a little poorly. It’s annoying me how fake she is acting towards him and how I can’t tell if this is Blair or he not having much chemistry with the other actor. On the other hand, maybe this makes her an extraordinary actress? My Gossip Girl filled head hurts now. Anyway, Blair is dying to meet the Duchess. But, it’s clear by his tone Marcus doesn’t want that, at all! While Blair runs off to call Serena about Marcus, my boyfriend Chuck enters the restaurant. He walks over to Marcus and is determined to strike up a faux truce with him. As Blair and Serena talk on the phone, Serena runs into Dan on the street outside the bus station. Looks like they’re going to hook up on that bus we keep seeing in ads.

Nate finds his mother gardening at their house and makes a surprise announcement to her son. The government has taken Nate’s father jetting off to some country as a sign of guilt so they’ve frozen all their money. This leaves Nate sad. Just as this announcement is coming out, his “older gal pal” Catherine calls for a “meeting.”

Catherine leaves a quick message to Nate explaining how they’re going to have to be much more discreet once they get back to the city. When she hangs up, she receives another call. Yup, here’s where the twist comes in…ready? Marcus calls Catherine. Why do you ask? Well its because good ole Marcus is Catherine’s good ole son. This is a bit of a stretch for me.

On the bus, Serena and Dan seriously can’t sit still. Every little thing this kids do is making them want to sleep with each other again. Serena “happens” to be eating chocolate covered strawberries, which intrigues Dan. They “casually” brush against each other’s fingers. Serena stands up and a bump on the road happens to make her fall in Dan’s lap. Yeah you get where this is going. Serena practically picks Dan up and leads him into the bathroom.

Marcus and Blair sit in the limo heading back to the city talking. We find out that Catherine is just his stepmother (but he forced storyline factor isn’t any better) and that he’s going to dinner with her. This leaves Blair angry that she’s not invited, so she decides to throw an impromptu party to get him not to go and prove that she’s royal material.

Wow, we’ve come across an actual scene with Rufus AND Vanessa. Two characters I could care less about are back. Vanessa has decorated a room into a new café that I think Rufus is going to running? I thought he worked at an art gallery? Can something explain that to me? I think I missed something.

We find Chuck and Marcus having a “friendly” game of squash on the court. Chuck is trying to find out more about Marcus as he squashes him at squash. Later, Chuck decides to sell his share of his strip club to impress Blair. But, we later find out this isn’t true.

Dan finally decides that it’s right for him and Serena to break up for good. But not before they see each other at Blair’s party. At the party not only do all the connections of these characters come out, we find out that Chuck has given Nate’s mother a loan to help them out. He was selling his trip club for Nate. See how much I love Chuck?

Blair’s party is going off, all right not at all. People seem bored and Blair seems uptight. Chuck crashes the party and brings Catherine. This ticks off Blair causing her say something mean about Catherine. Oops. The party becomes a bust.

Serena and Dan decide to forget the breakup and have another little romp in the elevator. Blair goes in search of Catherine who the maid says in the library (with Nate having another little “get together”). Uh-oh. Blair finds them rolling around on the floor. Blair uses this opportunity to tell Catherine to back off and to not look down on her.

Blair uses her victory with Catherine to gloat over Chuck. She’s proud she has the upper hand now. Nate calls Vanessa to tell her he won’t be coming back to see her as he had planned. This leaves her hurt as she had planned something nice, Chinese food at the new café. I may not like her character, but I feel bad for her now. No one really deserves that. Finally we end with Nate and Catherine in a limo making a deal. Catherine is going to help out Nate’s family in exchange for them spending even more quality time together.

Thank god we’re out of the Hamptons where the real fun can begin! Welcome back to New York City!
