Antarctica, on a small US research base a team of three researchers are closing down for the season and preparing to head back to the US when they find something in the ice. They have been searching through the ice since Earth's second Stargate was found in a cavern underneath the ice. Since then the only thing of importance that they have found where two frozen Jaffa.

Their new discovery sends the SG1 team to Antarctica along with new member Jonas and Dr. Frasier. Upon arrival their new discovery is revealed to the SG1 team. The body of a woman frozen in time, perfectly preserved in a block of ice.

Dr. Frazier along with Dr. Francine Michaels start to melt down the ice to reveal 'Ayiana' ( the name Dr. Michaels gave her when they discovered her ). Before their arrival on Antarctica Dr. Michaels had already retrieved a sample form the body to perform some tests on. At first she thought that she was loosing her mind when she thought that the ice crystals hadn't destroyed the tissue the way it usually does. She is glad when Dr. Frazier confirms her findings and they go ahead with uncovering her body. At first they can only see part of her arm and sleeve which are covering her face. Dr. Frazier lifts the sleeve and is shocked by how well the body is preserved. She then shines a light in her eyes and notices that the pupil dialates. At first she must think that she is loosing her mind, but the second time she shines the light in the woman's eyes has the same reaction.

She calls Sam into the room and they hook the woman up to a machine to measure her brainwaves, if she even has any. Normally she couldn't have them but in this case all bets are off.

They crank up the heat and start to work on her to resisitate her, they are dumbfounded when they are actually able to do so. The woman regains consciousness and is breathing on her own.

But trying to find out who she is seems harder to do, she doesn't understand english and trying to tell her who they are only results in her repeating the words that she hears. None the less Jonas keeps trying to communicate with her while the doctors try and find out everything they can by performing tests.

The two scientists who lived at the research facility go out to the place where they retrieved her body to get some samples so that they can find out when her body was frozen. While the tests in the lab show them that she might be as old as 3 million years, possibly even older. Which would mean that she was around when the Arctic Stargate was in use.

Dr. Frasier and Sam have a new theory, they think that the evolution of humans as we know it might not have been the first time that the humans' evolved on earth. Which would mean that Ayiana is one of the ancients.

Francine collapses, she is diagnosed with a virus, as time passes she becomes sicker and sicker. The two other scientists are outside to retrieve some samples when they also get sick. One of them makes it back to the base, the other one is lost in the upcoming snowstorm. Teal'c and Jack go on a rescue mission, they return with the scientist who is suffering from hypothermia and frozen limbs.

Jonas tries to communicate with Ayiana to the best of his abbility, soon he notices that even though she can't talk back to him she understands what he is saying. He explains to her what is going on around them. Jonas tells Ayiana about the sick scientists and as Sam and Dr. Frasier try to do everything in their power to save the man she steps forward and heals him.

After that even though it weakens her she also heals the other two scientists. Her white blood cell count is extreemly low and she isn't allowed to heal any of the others who are by now showing signs that they have the disease as well. At night Ayiana sneaks out of her bed and heals everyone, she is found collapsed in the room on the floor by the others. She has been able to heal everyone except for O'Neill.

A disease control team arrives and takes them all back to SGC, Ayiana and Jack are placed in quarantine. Jonas asks Ayiana to heal herself and heal Jack. But she is too weak, she speaks for the first time when she says 'sorry' before she breathes her last breathe.

The team knows that Jack is dying and that they are not able to help him. Thoran arrives ans tells them that they have a symbiote who's host has died on an undercover op. For the Tok'ra it is important that the symbiote gets a new host because he wasn't able to give them the information that he retrieved on the undercover op. So helping Jack will also help the Tok'ra.

Major Carter wants Jack to be the one to make the choice. She explains that his life is at stake and that the Tok'ra need the information. He finally agrees and is taken through the Stargate with the Tok'ra.

Maybe you are wondering why I choose this particular episode, well it actually reminded me of something that happens years ago when I was a small child. Overhere in the netherlands we have this youth news program which explains the news in an understandale way without hiding the real news item. One day they said that a body of a prehistoric hunter had been found frozen in a glacier. And that it had been frozen in time and that they where able to shock him back to life, that the man was on life support but that he was getting better. And if he woke up he could tell us what his life had been like and all of that. Everyone who watched it on one hand couldn't believe it, but the way that they told the 'newsitem' was so real they had scientist and doctors working with them ... only thing we forgot was that it was april fools day. So it was all a joke, but apparently some other news channels picked up on it as well. And seeing this episode reminded me of that extremely good joke, that happened so many years ago.
