This is it, the moment you have all been waiting for…….my number 1 favorite Buffy episode of all time……”Hush”. I chose this episode for many reasons, the great story, the great acting, and the great directing.

We start off the episode in Professor Walsh’s class and Buffy is told to lay down on the desk for a demonstration. Riley is told to go to her. Buffy says that this is strange and Riley says that when he kisses her it will make the sun go down. When they open their eyes, the room is dark and empty.

Buffy hears a girl singing and she follows the voice. She is singing about the Gentlemen. Buffy turns around and there one is. Buffy wakes up in class as Willow teases her about falling asleep. They leave and Riley catches up. Willow is happy to see them getting along. Buffy slips and tells Riley she is going to be patrolling and covers it up. They chat and Riley slips and says he has papers to grade; Buffy calls him on it, as they had no assignment.

Giles and Buffy are talking about Buff’s dream. Giles has never heard of the Gentlemen, so he asks Spike if he has heard of them. No one has. Any and Dander arrive at Giles’ apartment. Giles wants to ditch Spike on Dander for a couple days while a “friend’ stays with him.

Willow attends her Wicca group. Which is a pathetic excuse for a Wicca group. Willow suggests spells, as the rest discuss bake sales and newsletters. This is when Tara enters the picture. A poor, pathetic looking Tara. Willow and Buffy catch up and talk about Riley. Buffy wished she could tell Riley the truth. It jumps to Riley talking about the same thing with Forrest. He feels bad about keeping the Initiative from Buffy.

The Scoobies do the last of their talking as Spike irritates Xanders as he ties him up to go to sleep. Giles’ friend, Olivia arrives. We see the Gentlemen open a box. This sucks the voice out of everyone in Sunnydale. The next morning, everyone wakes up and gets ready as normal. But no one can talk. Willow thinks she has gone deaf. They soon discover that it is everybody. Xander tried calling Willow and Buffy, and realizes he can’t talk. Riley and Forrest go to the Iniative to find out what is happening. The problem, they have a security system that requires a vocal code. They get the override code in just in time. When they get to the Initiative, Professor Walsh point so a sign that says “In Case of Emergencies, use the Stairway.” That is funny stuff.

Most of the time, the problems are small, this time, the whole town is involved. People are freaking out, believing it may be the end of the world. Buffy and Willow arrive at Giles’ apartment. Buffy feels that she needs to be out to keep an eye on things. Professor Walsh has the same idea. Buffy and Riley meet up in town and have their first kiss.

After everyone goes to sleep, the Gentlemen head out to collect their 7 hearts. They get 3, which means they will be back to business soon. One of the victims is a student in Buffy’s dorm. Olivia saw them and draws a picture for Giles. Now he knows where he has seen them before. He gathers everybody at the school and puts on a presentation about the Gentlemen. We find out that they are Fairy Tale monsters that collect hearts, which Xander mistakes as “boobies”. Xander wants to know how they kills them. Buffy gives a motion that looks like staking, but not so much. She realizes what she is doing, and gets out the stake (very funny). The only way to kill them is with a human voice.

Buffy and Riley and the Initiative head out. Tara leaves the dorm and is chased by the Gentlemen. She makes it back to the dorm, but no one will open the door to help her. She makes it to Willow, as the two of them run from the Gentlemen. Buffy and Riley are fighting them separately, and end up face to face. The look of shock was great as they realize that the other one is not as normal as they thought. They fight together.

Back at Giles’ apartment, Xander walks in to find Spike with blood on his lips and Anya laying on the couch. Xander freaks out and thinks Spike has bit Anya. He starts beating on him to find out she is ok. She makes a motion to suggest something inappropriate, and they leave together.

Willow and Tara get trapped in the laundry room. Willow is trying to move the soda machine in front of the door with magic, but can’t. Tara holds Willow’s hand and they are able to move it together. Here begins the Tara/Willow relationship.

As Buffy and Riley fight, Buffy figures out where the voices are stored. She motions for Riley to break the box, and with a pleased look on his face, he breaks the jar. She re-motions and he gets the box. The voices are returned, she screams and all of their heads explode. Everything is back to normal. Including Buffy and Riley’s awkward relationship.

Well, that was number 1 on my list. Would it have made your top Buffy episodes list? If so, where at. What would you have chosen as your number 1? Please leave your two cents in the comment section or e-mail me at JennyD@thetwocentscorp.com.
