Have you ever heard of Schrödinger’s Cat? It’s a thought experiment that traps a cat in a box with a vial of poison that will open randomly, so that the cat may be thought of as both alive and dead, until someone opens the box. What does this have to do with Penny and Leonard going on a date? Both Penny and I have no idea, but apparently their cat is alive.

Back to the beginning: While Howard teaches Sheldon to speak Mandarin so he can confront the Szechuan Palace about passing off orange chicken as tangerine chicken, Penny comes in and throws her (ex-)boyfriend’s iPod into the street. She’s angry because he wrote about their sex life in his blog (apparently, even though she likes to do it in public, she doesn’t want the public reading about it). Leonard comes over to comfort her (in her suspiciously clean apartment – continuity!) and inadvertently convinces her to go reconcile the relationship. Unfortunately, Penny walks in on Mike already with another woman.

Leonard goes over again, and Penny accepts a date with him to break her routine of dating rich handsome jerks. Now, I am not a Leonard/Penny shipper, but even I squealed a little bit. Penny asks Sheldon for advice, but he spends most of his time trying to find the perfect seat in her apartment before explaining Schrödinger’s cat. Leonard also asks Sheldon for advice (answer: the cat). When he goes to get Penny, he kisses her, after which she seems more than happy for the date to continue.

Some of the best lines (there were too many!):
    Leonard: That was quick.
Penny: That’s what I said to the woman who had her legs wrapped around his neck!

    Penny: Wanna sit down?
Sheldon: Ohhh, I wish it were that simple.

Penny: He’s the kind of guy that gets into a relationship for, I don’t know, like you would say, light years.
Sheldon: I would not say that! No one would say that – a light year is a unit of distance, not time.

    (after Leonard kisses her)
Penny: Alright, the cat’s alive, let’s go to dinner!

So what did YOU think? Glad Leonard finally replaced the hoodie with a suit jacket at least? Going to use “Long live concrete” in your next Mandarin conversation? Leave your Two Cents in the comments.

  3. Long Live conrete is a sentence that should be use in conversation in every language. Hee hee.

Although I'm glad to see Leonard and Penny finally go on a date - I kinda hope it doesn't work out.

I know it's weird but I want to seee Penny hook up with Sheldon!

  4. Not weird, I love Penny and Sheldon! Not completely sure if I want them as a couple, but their scenes are my favorite.
