Tonight’s theme was “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.” My word! Could it get any broader? With a vast catalog to choose from, the real key to this competition has become painfully obvious: song selection. If a contestant has made it this far in the game, the vocal chops are there. We know this. What will separate the Idols from the Hanger-Oners is what song is chosen. Keep reading for all the Hall of Fame-tastic details…

David Cook
1st Song: “Hungry Like the Wolf” Duran Duran
Randy said it was just an OK song choice but a solid performance.
Paula said that she was left with an appetite (like that hungry wolf) and wanted more.
Simon asked if it was good enough to get David through to next week… Yes.
2nd Song: “Baba O’Rilley” The Who
Randy thought this was more like the David he loves: The Resident Rocker.
Paula again wanted more because it was so yummy.
Simon said “Welcome back, David.”
Syesha Mercado
1st Song: “Proud Mary” Tina Turner
Randy exclaimed that Syesha is “showing the heat.”
Paula said she looked like a star and had some “magic.”
Simon thought it was a bad imitation of Tina Turner.
2nd Song: “A Change is Gonna Come” Sam Cooke
Randy did not love this one as much as the first song.
Paula gave her a standing ovation and said “welcome to your dream.”
Simon agreed with Paula.
Jason Castro
1st Song: “I Shot the Sheriff” Bob Marley
Randy thought it was too karaoke.
Paula wasn’t crazy about the choice but thought he performed to the audience well.
Simon said it was “utterly atrocious.”
2nd Song: “Mr. Tambourine Man” Bob Dylan
Randy said he was not in “the zone.”
Paula said “it is what it is.”
Simon told Jason to pack his suitcase.
David Archuleta
1st Song: “Stand By Me” Ben E. King
Randy told David he “brought the hot man vocals.”
Paula said he really delivered.
Simon thought it was the best performance so far.
2nd Song: “Love Me Tender” Elvis Presley
Randy loved how David “caressed each lyric.”
Paula said it was one of her favorite performances from David.
Simon said he crushed the competition.
So what do YOU think? Was Jason Castro actually yawning at the beginning? Why does David Archuleta always pick squishy, feel-good songs? What was your favorite performance? Give us your Two Cents… We’ll use it to buy Simon a new black t-shirt
Tomorrow: The Results
I'd buy David Cook's album, but he's just like 10000 other bands out there right now.
ReplyDeleteLittle David - I'm tired of his Melinda Doolittle "Golly Gee Whiz" looks on EVERY single comment he gets.
Syesha picked a song people don't know - kiss of death.
But Jason Castro - wow. Come on dude. Could someone care any less about being there? He's not even trying anymore. PLEASE send him home.
KP took the words right out of my mouth.
ReplyDeleteDavid Cook's going to make it in the music industry, regardless of where he finishes in this contest. But yes, you won't be able to tell his voice from the others on the radio.
David Archuletta seems to have the portion of America that votes tucked under his eye lids. Unfortunately, where is there a place for him in the Top 40 and mainstream music, where Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have found their success? The answer is probably no where. Hopefully Nickelodeon or Disney snatch him up after this. That's more his speed.
Syesha and Jason? Jason is going home this week and Syesha is next, barring a complete meltdown by David Cook.
Song choice people! Play it safe. That's one thing that Little David has done well.
Ultimately, this season of Idol is turning out to be pretty bad.
I really think that David Cook deserves to win it, even though at this point I think it'll go to wee David.
ReplyDeleteAnd as much I loved looking into Jason's hypnotizing blue eyes every week (seriously, that has to explain my love), I agree with Simon.
I agree - David C. will be a star no matter what the outcome, but I do hope he wins. Mostly because I'm so annoyed with Jason and Little David. Syesha has surprised me that past couple of shows though... her performance of that Sam Cooke song last night was amazing. You never know...
