Carla thinks she is a bad mom. Turk tells her she is the best mom ever. Carla says: “This will come back to you in a good way.” And there you have it – the message of the latest episode of Scrubs: What goes around comes around. You know, Karma. Does My Name is Earl ring a bell? Good.

The following is a list of things done in the first half of the episode and how those actions come back around to the doers in the second half.

    1. JD tells a burn victim that, of course, he will make it to his graduation. Getting his patient’s hopes up comes back haunt to JD when the kid’s skin grafts get infected and the possibility of recovering before graduation slips away.

    2. Kelso is rude to Cox (big surprise) so in return, Perry decides to take any food that Kelso is eating right out of his hand. Literally. There is the brilliant muffin/tennis ball switcharoo and the pizza replacing charts. Good stuff.

    3. JD makes Turk look a bit foolish with a well-placed note containing the simple, but powerful words “Suck it, Bitch!” How does this bad Karma return to JD? In the form of the simple, but powerful water balloon named Fat Daddy.

    4. In the world of “Dream Sequence Karma,” JD imagines Turk talking to some day-laborers in Spanish. He is rewarded for his act of kindness with a trip to Amigoville… a shiny, happy picnic with churros as big as a three-year-old. I know… weird.

    5. Turk makes Cox mad and, in retaliation, Perry outs Turk. No, it’s not what you’re thinking. See #7 below.

    6. Even though JD didn’t take her advice to NOT promise the burn victim he could go to his graduation, Eliot helps JD make good on the promise (hoping the photographer can Photoshop out anguish). Why? Because they are friends. I guess no amount of bad Karma can ruin a good friendship.

    7. Turk decides to keep his 6-year anniversary present to Carla (the fact that he learned Spanish for her) a secret so he can spy on her. This one comes back in a nice bookend to the episode: she forgives him. What? You see, when she told him in the beginning that she was a good mother and Carla said, it would “come back to (him) in a good way,” this is what she meant. His good Karma from earlier helped defect the bad Karma gained by lying to Carla. Say it with me, now: Aaaaahhhhhhh!

The moral at the end of the story? As spoken by JD, “Life is about the connections we make.” Not just our connections with people, but the connections between our actions and the reactions of those around us. Don’t make Karma mad, people. She’ll hit you with a car.

    Next week: “My Manhood”

PS - My favorite moment of the episode: In the hard open, Turk and JD play a game of water balloon Space Invaders, complete with rows and rows of interns, the Mother Ship, and sound effects provided by the freakish voice of Josephine. Girl ain’t right.
