The Farrelly Brothers, who brought us “Dumb & Dumber,” “Something About Mary,” and “Stuck On You,” have snuck into FOX’s television lineup with a new sitcom, UNHITCHED. The half-hour comedy follows the lives of four friends re-entering single life after each suffer a failed marriage. Our super team of singles consists of Kate (Rashida Jones), Jack “Gator” Gately (Craig Bierko), Tommy (Johnny Sneed), and Dr. Freddy Sahgal (Shaun Majumder).

Instead of giving you a play-by-play of each week’s episode, I’ll provide you with a summary of each character’s brief encounter with a new mate. Here are the first two episodes to get you caught up:

Instead of giving you a play-by-play of each week’s episode, I’ll provide you with a summary of each character’s brief encounter with a new mate. Here are the first two episodes to get you caught up:

Premier Episode: “Cougars, Chimps, and Pimps, Oh My!”
Kate: We learn that her date, Tim, is much shorter than her ex-husband, Chad. The guys convince her to give the guy a chance and not compare everyone to “The Chad.” She agrees and goes on a date with him to a Celtics game, also Tim’s employer. After he scores great seats and introduces her to Paul Pierce and Ryan Gomes, Kate feels better that she is giving this guy a chance…until he tears off his suit to reveal that he is the Boston Celtics’ little leprechaun mascot.
Freddy: Instead of celebrating his birthday alone he decides to call an escort service. The young lady appointed to Freddy cons him into taking the date further then dinner to an over night stay in Atlantic City, NJ. When they return to Boston, Freddy continues the spontaneity by proposing to her, but her pimp/boyfriend (played by Johnny Knoxville) is waiting with a huge invoice for Freddy’s birthday getaway.
Tommy: The friend of the group to go through not one, nor two, but three failed marriages, hits on a sophomore in high school, but Gator rescues him. We are led to believe he will score with a drunken business partner of Gator’s, but instead he drops her off at Gator’s house and leaves her in his bed. A case of miscommunication amongst friends.
Gator: He’s our winner. As he “scores” with a date, her pet monkey literally violates Gator. A threesome no man should be subjected to. His ex also returns with an attempt to get him back, but he finds out he is her second choice when she slips that her alternative to Gator left her.

    Episode 2: “Woman Marries Horse”
Kate: Kate is under the impression she is dating the next big rock star. She finds out he is not what she thought when they are at his concert. As one of the audience members at the concert described him to Kate as the best air-guitarist in New England.
Tommy: Tommy meets a woman at an ATM and quickly goes back to her place to make a personal “transaction.” As Tommy carries her through her apartment door her entire family confronts them. They claim she has a sex addiction. Tommy agrees with them, but leads her into the bedroom anyway and tells them she can’t quit cold turkey.
Gator: Gator believes he has found the perfect woman…until he notices a skin tag on her back that looks like a shrimp or scallop.
Freddy: The doctor has the most heartfelt encounter of the group and it’s not even with he opposite sex. Freddy befriends a tall intimidating bouncer at a club the group visits. They hang out and taking a liking to each other. When the club closes, Freddy gets his bouncer friend a job at his medical office.

PG’s TwoCents: UNHITCHED is an edgy comedy about thirty-something-aged friends encountering the ups-and-downs of re-entering the dating scene. If you have friends and you’ve had bad luck at some point during the courting period, then you will connect with this show. It’s like a reincarnated blend of Seinfeld and Mad About You with a Farrelly Brothers’ twist. Check it out!
