Prison Break

Original Air Date: February 11, 2008

Lesson to be learned: Even if don’t trust someone, you have to respect them. Last week, Lechero, Bagwell and Bellick ignored that rule of thumb, and it costs them. They bullied themselves to be the first three out of the tunnel, only to have the generator kick in quicker than anticipated (Or was it?) As the guards swarm around them and the prison populace is assembled for a count, the four remaining breakers use the guards’ trucks as cover as they make their way to the fence. Along the way, however, Whistler drops his bird book with the coordinates that make him so important.

Michael, Whistler, McGrady and Mahone get past the gate and meet up with Linc in the jungle. They arrive at the beach just ahead of the army and manage to dig up the oxygen tanks that Linc had stored. McGrady’s presence complicates things, since it’s one more person than tanks. Linc tells Mahone he’s SOL, but Michael says he and McGrady will trade off and share a tank. They swim to a buoy, where Sucre is supposed to meet them with the boat.

Unfortunately, Sucre is still being detained due to the outstanding warrant on his alias. He misses the boat (literally), but McGrady’s father comes to the rescue and picks up the escapees and Linc. They outrun and outwit Gretchen and her posse and take Whistler to an abandoned warehouse, where they wait for the swap.

Lechero is shot during the attempted escape, so the guards turn their attentions to Bellick and Bagwell to find out what they know about Scofield. The General in charge orders his men to dig up all the information they have on the escapees. After Bellick is beaten senseless, they turn their attentions to Bagwell. Just as Sucre is released due to the more pressing matters, Bagwell spots him and tells the guards that Sucre knows all about the escape. Sucre passes this off as Bagwell being desperate to save his own hide, but just as he is about to go, the General’s research team brings of the wanted poster of Sucre that they found in the course of investigating Michael.

McGrady and his father start to drive home, but approach a roadblock set up by the General. At the warehouse, tensions come to a head as Mahone says he’s done and is about to go his own way. Still remembering that Mahone shot his father in the back, Linc is ready to shoot Mahone. Whistler uses this confusion to make his escape and steal a nearby truck. As he drives away, the episode ends.

The episode is definitely one of the season’s best. The established threads begin to come together, and new problems start to arise. Back to what the show does best.

Next week looks to be the finale in the shortened season, even though the Writers’ strike seems to be resolving.

Prison Break airs Mondays at 8 PM on FOX. Episodes can also be viewed at the FOX website.
