"Chuck" Recap & Review - "Chuck Versus the Marlin"

Chuck
"Chuck Versus the Marlin"

Original Airdate 1/24/08

Jeff L - TwoCents Staff Writer

Chuck “busts” Lester and Jeff’s cleavage-cam antics and while he’s feeling them up, err dressing them down, Captain Awesome pulls him away to ask for his sister’s hand in marriage. While Awesome is dancing around the question, Chuck spots a bug (not the insect variety) planted at the Buy More. He runs off to yell at Casey, who’s been known to plant a bug or two around Chuck in the past. Casey doesn’t recognize the bug but I’m sure he’ll look into it. He’s quite the professional.

Chuck makes it back to Awesome who gives him a giant diamond ring that’s been passed down from his great grandmother or something and asks him to hold onto it until he can pop the question to Ellie.

Later on, Candyman and General Grandma tell the gang that the bug is a CIA design and that the Fulcrum agents inside the CIA – remember them the ones who abducted Bryce Larkin, are closing in on Chuck and the Intersect. If they manage to find out that Chuck is the Intersect then Grandma and the Candyman will have no choice but to place Chuck in protective isolation in an underground bunker.

The CIA bug is supposed to have a transmitter unit placed nearby so they have to check out everything in the Buy More to find it. Big Mike shows up the next morning to find everything in the store gone – including his prized stuffed Marlin which normally hangs in his office. The cops are called in to question everyone since it had to be an inside job. Chuck arrives at work to find they’ve been robbed and runs for his locker where he was keeping Awesome’s ring. It’s gone too.

In a warehouse across town, Casey and Sarah and their team have all the Buy More merchandise and they’ve found 29 more bugs like the one Chuck flashed on. They still can’t find the transmitter however. The team manages to tap into some security camera footage and they spot a bad guy trying to steal Big Mike’s marlin. That must be where they’ve been hiding the transmitter. A drunk Jeff and Lester foiled the fishnapping and while they seatch Big Mike’s office for alcohol they decide to steal the fish themselves – hey they were drunk!

Chuck can’t find the ring in the inventory that they heisted from the Buy More and Sarah tells him that they never took a ring. He ends up having to stall Awesome a few times because he doesn’t have the ring.

Chuck is questioned by the police and Big Mike and they decide to sweat him a little by locking him in the office. It’s there he realizes that there were 29 bugs planted in the Buy More and that Jeff and Lester had received 29 deliveries from the sexy delivery girl they captured on cleavage-cam. He iPhone’s a photo over to Sarah.

Outside, Casey has sweated Jeff and Lester for the whereabouts of the Marlin. They finally admit to leaving it at Chuck’s apartment. Chuck and Casey search the place but can’t find the fish. Turns out, Morgan had taken the fish from Chuck’s place to avoid him getting in trouble with Big Mike. He stashed it in the freezer of the Weinerlicious. They make a mad dash but the Fulcrum agent has beaten them there. She gets into a big secret-agent-cat fight with Sarah, but manages to lock her in the freezer and make off with the Marlin’s transmitter and Awesome’s wedding ring – which Morgan also placed in the freezer. He thought Chuck was going to propose to Sarah and stole the ring so he couldn’t do it.

The feds decide that Chuck must be relocated into protective custody and the detective who was questioning everybody at the Buy More grabs Chuck out of the Weinerlicious. Casey rescues Sarah from the freezer and they decide the save Chuck by tracking down the Fulcrum agent before she can get the info to her superiors.

The detective wasn’t really with the police, he was another agent who was sent to take Chuck into protective custody. Before he can do that, however he’s killed by the Fulcrum agent and Casey and Sarah show up to save Chuck. Sarah and the Fulcrum agent end up falling off the roof into a dumpster where Sarah manages to get the drop on her. She’s taken away.

Chuck starts turning the dumpster upside down to find Awesome’s ring – which he does eventually. He manages to get Awesome the ring just in time for him to propose, but Ellie has fallen asleep.

Sarah and Chuck watch through the window as Awesome wakes Ellie and proposes. Sarah breaks the news to Chuck that this whole arrangement was never meant to be permanent and eventually they may have to take him to that underground bunker.
