Hello again AI fans! Tonight we get to visit Omaha, NB. This is our 1st time here in all of the AI seasons and there are 10,000 hopefuls.

I feel the need to put a disclaimer on tonight’s commentary. I am recuperating from the flu and the doctor gave me some sweet cough syrup and by “sweet” I think it makes me a little high. So, if parts of tonight’s commentary do not make sense to you just imagine that to me, it’s probably the funniest thing I have ever written. Ok, let’s move on…

We start the night being told that for the time being we just have Simon and Randy as our judges because Paula’s plane has been delayed. Now, unless you have lived under a rock you surely have heard about the Bravo’s Show, “Hey Paula” We now know that Paula doesn’t do “delays” well or anything where she is told “No.” Paula likes her meltdowns that is for sure! So I imagine that she is in some airport right now crying and carrying on like my 4 year old does when she doesn’t get her way. Meanwhile, Randy and Simon seem to be doing fine without her.

Our 1st contestant is going to explode and happiness is going to go everywhere! He brought gifts for all the judges. Randy gets a really fluffy white dog. Simon gets a sweatshirt. And Paula isn’t there so she doesn’t get her gift. (I am sure she will have yet another meltdown later because of it.) Our contestant also brings his photo album full of pictures of him and Kelly Clarkson. Simon puts the photo album up in Paula’s place. Our contestant goes on to sing…. You guessed it, Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Been Gone” He does not do the song justice. BUT he also asks to audition to be in the AI red carpet. Simon likes him and tells him to get with his local fox affiliate and he will work the red carpet for the season finale this makes our 1st contestant just as happy as if he was on his way to Hollywood.

Jason is up next and sings “When You Say Nothing At All” by Keith Whitley. He can’t seem to remember the words but the part that he does keep singing over and over, he sings well and I think if he can pull it out he might have a shot. Well, with Simon’s help – giving Jason the words, Jason does remember more of the song and moves on to the next round. However, Simon says that he will never do that for him again, help out like that. I hope Jason doesn’t get that kind of stage fright on an actual stage…we will see.

Woo Hoo! Paula finally shows up and you can kind of tell that she isn’t her usual happy self. I would love to see the behind scene footage of those meltdowns (meltdowns with an s because you know that there were more than one!)

Rachel is up next and she is an arm wrestling champ! She sings “Don’t Tell Me To Stop Loving You.” She has a good country voice in my opinion. However, Simon says that she sounds like she has been doing this for 50 years and it just hasn’t worked out- his words now mine. With that said, Randy says yes and so does Paula so she is off to Hollywood. Rachel arm wrestles Paula and wins!

We are shown a clip a very angry guitar singer, very angry.

Next up is a former professional wrestler named Sarah. She is very Goth, very Goth! She has a cracklin’ witchy laugh. She sings the perfect song for her, “I’m so happy.” I have never heard that song before and I don’t suppose I will never hear it again because she does not make it to Hollywood.

Ryan wonders why Sarah didn’t get a golden ticket and Simon and he bicker back and forth, to and fro and Ryan ends up taking Paula’s spot at the judges table and Paula takes Ryan’s spot out in the hallway. Samantha, Samantha Sidley gets got in the crossfire for this. She sings Nora Jones, “I Don’t Know Why” Ok, now I really DO NOT like Norah Jones type of music. I really DO NOT like Nora Jones voice nor her songs. I know, she’s a huge success, but still, I don’t like her. BUT Samantha totally ROCKS it! She is my favorite so far this entire season. Ryan, Randy, Simon and Paula have some more “anybody can be a judge” fun but the end result is that my girl Samantha moves on to Hollywood.

We are treated to a bunch of people getting more golden tickets.

This next story is a bit confusing, or it could just be my magical cough syrup. We meet a 17 year old girl who lives with her grandma because she doesn’t get along with her parents but misses her dad anyways and hopes that by being on AI this will bring them closer together. All the while she is telling us her story, she is crying more than I think that she should. Anyway, she sings, she does well, gets a golden ticket goes out into the hallway and Ryan calls her dad and her dad is happy and says that she will always be his American Idol. Our girl cries so more and yet with all this love between father and daughter I still don’t really understand why don’t get along to the point that she can’t live with him. It doesn’t matter. Hopefully with the magic of AI, they will be able to reunite.

We meet a bunch of rockers that will never make it to Hollywood.

David is up next and he is here thanks to Chris Daughtry because he is a rocker too. David sings, “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. He does it justice and moves on.

Up next is Johnny and he is the next James Brown. He likes to wear shinny gold jackets that I imagine James Brown would have worn as well. He sings and jumps around like crazy to “Shout” Paula has the hic-ups and when Johnny is done with his audition she no longer has the hic-ups because I think Johnny scared them out of her. That was the only good thing to come from his audition. He does not make it to the next round.

Next is a bunch of folks singing “Stuck in the Middle with You.”

Leo is our last contestant and he lives in a town of 200 people. His mom has always said that she raised the perfect homecoming queen it’s just too bad that it wasn’t one of her daughters. You know, she is referring to her son, Leo, get it? Oh, just blame my cough syrup! He sings a song titled, “A Song for You.” I do not know this song???? But he does good and if off to Hollywood.

All total, 19 people are moving on to Hollywood from Omaha. Tomorrow night we in Miami! I think some time in the sun will be good for me getting over this yucky flu. See you there!
